So the roster as it is is as follows:

1. Mozgov
2. Randle
3. Deng
4. JC
5. Russell
6. Black
7. Nance
8. Ingram
9. Lou
10. Calderon
11. Huertas
12. Zubac
13. Brown
14. Nick Young
15. Yi
16. MWP
17. Robinson
18. Auguste
19. Wear
20. Jacobs

I think 1-13 is pretty much set especially if Brown shows consistency in his shooting. The question would be if Nick Young and Yi who have some sort of guarantees in their contracts are really candidates to be cut. From 16-20, Robinson seems to have the biggest upside. After all, he was a former top 5 pick.

After game 1 of preseason, what are your thoughts? Still early to tell but is Young's DNP an indication of things to come? Did Robinson's performance coupled with Yi's lack of effectiveness put the latter in danger of losing his roster spot?

14 guaranteed contracts... 6 non, Jianlian, MWP, Robinson, Wear, Jacobs, Augste. Of those 6 I'd expect them to go with Yi Jianlian (that contract is highly tradeable).

Wouldn't shock me to see MWP become a coach on some level.

Not sure why. He doesnt offer the team anything our other bigs don't and his only skill is hustling. That's great and all but way he played last night is how he's always played. Hits the boards and gets putbacks. Can't pair him with any of our other bigs.

Young's DNP is moot...most vets don't play every preseason game anyway, wouldn't read too much into him not playing.

Zubac won't be on the active opening night roster,so that clears one spot for Yi . Also I believe Marcelo will be inactive opening night.

Personally I'd rather see Auguste make the team than Robinson since his ceiling is much higher than a guy that was a former lottery pick and hasn't played up to it.
Truth is the cuts are probably going to be MWP, Robinson, Wear,Jacobs, Auguste

Brown, Marcelo and Zubac will be inactive....book it

Auguste got 60k guaranteed in his contract. Teams usually guaranteed a bit of money on guys they are going to cut and send to D League b/c of how terrible the salaries are. 60k plus whatever the D league rate is to keep him from taking a deal in China or Europe.

So I'd count Auguste as a D Leaguer.

14. Nick Young - I still doubt if he makes the team. But I still have a little faith that he might do wonders under Luke. I would like to gamble on that. But I can't assess furthermore because I haven't seen him play again. I guess if he's staying in the team they let him play on pre-season.

15. Yi - He played okay in the Olympics and played bad one game in the pre-season. My thought is that maybe he is a little rusty yet. Maybe more conditioning and work on his speed.

16. MWP - I like him to stay but as a special coach maybe and a practice player to guard Ingram and to toughen him up. But I wouldn't mind if he makes the cut.

17. Robinson - I always wanted a big who hustles and clears the boards and if he can make put backs then that's better. The one thing that's in his advantage is age. He is Younger than Nick, Yi and WMP. And it's good to have a reserved big just in case Mozgov get's injured again (seems that he is injury prone right now).

18. Auguste - I also seen him play during the summer leauge. If like most of the guys here think that Zubac should be in the D-League then I would say that that's where Auguste belongs too.

19. Wear - Must probably will be one of the first to be cut.
20. Jacobs - Must probably will be one of the first to be cut.

The last two spots will be Robinson, Yi and Young. If we won't see any of Nick in the pre-season then my guess is that it will be Robinson and Yi.

once they're waived and hit the D league they are able to sign with anyone they want... what the Lakers guarantee on this contract has no bearing on what happens in the D League.. he's a free agent and go anywhere he wants

I understand all of that but unless he goes to the D League and completely murders it and a team needs a big man he's probably not going anywhere. Even still it's a business decision and you weigh the options.

Auguste has no value to the real roster this season. He is however a prospect worth keep a close eye on or calling up IF some injuries take place.

These are the guys I expect to get cut.

16. MWP
17. Robinson
18. Auguste
19. Wear
20. Jacobs

I hope Nick Young gets the axe and someone like Robinson or Wear to take his spot. Auguste will be a D-Leaguer and prolly get called up once someone gets injured.

Usually, teams like to enter the regular season with one, or two, open roster spots, to maintain flexibility, should injuries arise. But, I think that the Lakers will defy that tradition, and go into the season with all 15 roster spots filled. I believe the players cut will be....

16. MWP
17. Robinson
18. Auguste
19. Wear
20. Jacobs

Unless one of those guys above show exceptional ability, than they're on the outside, looking in. Bigs that can shoot are a commodity in today's league, and Yi fits that bill. Nick, for all his issues, is both a shooter and an improved defender. If he and Russell have truly put the past behind them, then it would be foolish to move him, w/o seeing how he could fit in. Plus, I believe Nick is a better overall player, then Lou Williams. If the Lakers want to free up an extra spot, move Lou, imo.

Yi a lock to make the Laker roster

word has broken that Yi will star in an NBA-themed advertising campaign for ExxonMobil in China, which could be a strong indication that he will indeed be part of the Lakers final 15 (via bizjournal.com):

I disagree with them saying there are already 14 locks though... i doubt the lakers just consider guaranteed contracts reason for locks.

I'll go with the colors.... Brown for sure and "out of left field".... Black. Black doesn't really fit our new scheme and Yi wasn't signed for nothing.

20 Wear 19 Jacobs - its obvious, they are not NBA players.
18 Auguste - i prefer Robinson and MWP as 3rd PF
17 - Yi - we have Mozgov, Black and Zubac, we can play smallball with Randle-Nance. Im afraid that FO think about chinese market and could not cut him. Cause he really dont deserve to spot in roster
16 - N.Young - if we cant trade him, cut him. He could have horrible impact to our youngs.

And of course trade Lou!

Expect Lou has no value so we're stuck with him. So bye bye Jacobs, Wear, Augustine, Robinson, and MWP.

If the Lakers are looking to possibly free up an additional roster spot, I would hope they find a way to move Lou. Everybody's talking about Nick leaving, but Lou is the one that has to go, imo. His game isn't a fit for Walton's offense, and he plays negative defense.

Keeping them would not be the best thing for our team IMHO. Brown isn't a player at this level. Paying him to open a roster spot for someone else who may be seems appropriate. Black is a valuable role player however if he's the primary backup at center we will not develop Zubac much unless we push him down to the D-league which isn't really developing him as he was playing in better leagues last year.
