Re: Stackhouse Responds To Article About Raptors Locking Arms During The Anthem
As far as I know, the Canadian anthem is pure and truly about freedom for all within our borders.
However, the star spangled banner is a joke of an anthem and all equality loving Americans should be ashamed of it. The lyrics were written by Francis Scott Key, a slave owner and strongly opposed to abolitionist. The man was worse than the scum at the bottom of a barrel. New lyrics should have been written LONG AGO, but Americans instead choose to blindly stand and praise the words of an oppressive piece of trash.

Considering your an old man it's pretty pathetic that you just gloss over WW2. I'm sure if Hitler had just been shown that we understand his concerns and see where his anger is coming from, he would've stopped attacking and conquering every country around him. If only 21st century "conflict resolution" was around back then the whole world war thing could've been stopped, lol, but stupid ass America had to go in with their military...
Military responsibility in any conflict comes down entirely to their effectiveness and tactics on the ground
The motivation behind using the military and getting the population behind war efforts is entirely a political issue
Whether a soldier fights in a just and righteous war or not has nothing to do with them. There were dirtbag soldiers on the allies side because of how they conducted themselves, just as there were men of honor in the invasion of Iraq because of how they conducted themselves. For anyone to blame the military for a countries motivations behind a war is the definition of unaware. I understand kids not grasping this but it shouldn't need to be explained to grown men.
If anything, my comment was on the side that the political propaganda that our freedoms are being protected by unnecessary wars is the problem. Of course I respect the people who work / serve in the military.
I don't think you understood my hilarious Simpsons reference.
I'm also 34...not really an old man.

Jerry and Sullinger are against the protest, Joe has been fighting against the police and the racial profiling that's taking place both Canada & US. Stackhouse was offended and started digging up Joe's past in order to leverage it to prove his point.

Sullinger / Stackhouse are in favour of the protest.
Schmumbly Joe has vomited some poorly organized words onto some paper. His point seems to be that MLB is good because they don't protest, unlike those good for nothing NBA Americans that don't respect our " Toronto Police officers, who — despite a few trouble makers — are among the best on race relations anywhere" .
My thoughts:
* Yes most Police are good people that respect across racial lines. Thats also true in the USA - if we could simply discount the actions of the "trouble makers" like Joe so easily does for Toronto than this issue would rapidly disappear. An integral BLM issue is that the "trouble makers" are protected by the system.
* Its not that MLB players are simply "unwoke" to the racial issues to protest, its that Black players are too afraid to protest. Check out what Adam Jones said about it:
http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2016/09/12/adam-jones-orioles-colin-kaepernick-white-mans-sport/90260326/
“We already have two strikes against us already,’’ Baltimore Orioles All-Star center fielder Adam Jones told USA TODAY Sports, “so you might as well not kick yourself out of the game. In football, you can’t kick them out. You need those players. In baseball, they don’t need us.
“Baseball is a white man’s sport.’’
Indeed, African Americans comprise 68% of the player population in the NFL, and 74% in the NBA. That number is just 8% in baseball, with only 69 African-Americans on the opening-day rosters and disabled lists this season.
This doesn’t mean that anyone who protests racial inequality or police brutality will be released from their teams, or banished from baseball, never to wear a uniform again. Still, in the conservative world of baseball, whose players stand 162 times for the national anthem, playing in front of more fans than any sport in the country, they could face much more ridicule and ostracization.
* Generally BLM and Kaepernick etc are treated with the same type of shallow sensationalism that most media stories are, while the principles are criticized for not doing anything positive.
Does the media talk about Campaign Zero , or does Sulliger get asked to comment on tweets like this one?

wow, why would Jerry and sully be against the protest, smh. That's bad. The American anthem is literally racist. That is the reason the 3rd verse got abolished, smh.
And when ppl say F the police, it's not every police officer, it's not every person, it's bigger than that. It's what has happened to that entire field that they are against. It's what they represent. More importantly, it's the abuse of power and the self entitlement

Its crazy that people actually have a problem with this. Just as crazy as people counteracting BLM with all lives matter. Its like going to a cancer fundraiser and saying "Nope all diseases matter!!"

It is like fake patriotism from Big Brother.
I respect the hard work of soldiers but am not going to check my brain at the door if some people in power implore their citizens to join imperial wars.

This sht is for real and these protests are legit. People who can't appreciate the level of inequality in America need to leave the farm once in a while. Good on Stack.

From day one of camp Jonesie and the rest of the reporters kept bringing up the issue of police brutality blah blah basically forcing Kyle and rest of the Raptors to do something about it. Thanks Jonesie, I watch the Raptors to escape from this chaotic political situation not for it to be forced down my throat when I am trying to watch a basketball game. Its an American issue yet our dumb reporters are the only ones talking about it, I havent seen any American teams locking hands yet.

It's a very serious issue. No doubt about it.
What does making a statement at the ESPYs or locking arms for the anthem do to solve it though?

The Celtics did it in their last game.
For the ones that are saying to keep these things out of sports, where do you want it discussed? What's going on isn't a new thing. It's been going on for decades and the sports world has always been a forum to bring light and attention to these issues.

It's not about solving it. It's about bringing more attention to the issues and getting more people behind it to effect change.
People decry Kapaernick for doing this but, now, there's a whole section of the population talking about things that for the most part they probably would have ignored or were ignoring as it didn't directly affect them.
