Tom Thibodeau Wants To See Wolves' Core Up Close Before Deciding Needs

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Oct 5, 2016 3:36 pm

Tom Thibodeau believes he's evolved his coaching techniques during his sabbatical from coaching. Thibodeau visited 13 different NBA teams last season, observing practices and having lunches with coaches.

Thibodeau also learned about long-term rest techniques and injury-prevention methods. The Warriors' "Strength in Numbers" vision also resonated.

Instead of making major moves in his first offseason, Thibodeau largely kept his core in place.

"I liked the core of the team. I want to get to know them better," he said. "I'm going to focus on the players we have. That gives me a better idea of what our needs are."

"It's a clinic every day," Ricky Rubio said. "There's an intensity in practice. He's tough but in a good way."

"It's like building a house," Thibodeau said. "We're still working on the foundation."

So Thibs corrected his only weakness ?
Man the Wolves will be scary in 2-3 years.

If Thibs can get rubio to improve on defense and learn how to shoot - wolves should be a lock to make the playoffs they could even beat out portland and okc to win their first division title since 2004. Thibs helped Rose do those two thing in his first season with the bulls but rose a much talented player made enough big strides to go on and win season mvp.

That's a tall order - if Thibs gets Rubio to improve on defense and learn how to shoot, he'll be better than prime Gary Payton.

The best chance rubio has to be a better defender is to be in a team that had a good defensive gameplan with at least 3 average defenders beside him.

If Lavine, Wiggins and dunn figure it out on that side of the court, besides Town ofc, he could shine, and not only on advanced metrics.

Rubio's defense is fine, it's his shooting and ability to finish around the rim that's the big problem.
I beg to differ

If Thibs could get Rubio to be as good as John Stockton, why, he'd be as good as John Stockton, I say.

Why if he were as good as John Stockton I'd reckon he'd be a solid PG
