Actually three to four years might be their window. Might not be the worst thing.

I doubt any team would give us a better offer for Holmes but, why not just keep Holmes? Won't cost as much, gives us way more on the offensive end, although we will lose some on the defensive end
It's under the line of thinking where we decide whom to trade between jah/Noel depending on who gets the better trade offer.
Okafor will get a better offer for many of the same reasons we want to move Noel in the first place. He cheap and under control for three more years. He has more upside. He is the better player.
The question is why would we move him instead of Noel? I can understand moving both especially if you believe in Holmes and Saric.
Noel has no future with Embiid on the roster.

Well truthfully I think Noel, okafor, and either Simmons or Saric will have to be traded. Too many rundant pieces. Unless Saric will accept a bench roll
We are not trading Simmons.

What if Saric becomes the better player? You going to keep the lesser player?

You already have 3 4's on this team(Simmons, Saric, Grant) and Holmes can slide to the 4 in an emergency.

Then he becomes the better player. We aren't trading Simmons anytime soon. If he just stinks or is average at best that's the only way we consider trading him.

He has a future for now while Embiid is on minutes restriction. I would like to see him play in preseason to see how he meshes with Saric and Embiid and Holmes though. We have so many good 4s and 5s. We are going to have some quality guys sitting on the bench for long periods of the game.

No where did I say we are trading Simmons anytime soon but eventually one of them (Simmons or Saric) will have to be traded. Unless, Saric will accept a bench role, which he may.

I've said all along I'm not sure Simmons is not ultimately a three. If he does prove able to handle the position that pretty much solves our glut at PF. As far as the rest goes look if Okafor proves he can be a four he's better then Saric, Grant, and Holmes.
But like I said in the previous post if Simmons is our PF longterm at some point Okafor is going to have to be moved. He is too good to accept a PF/C super sub role at this point of his career and it will create problems for Saric who will be forced to play SF or be pretty much benched. So I can easily see a scenario where both would need to be moved.
The problem Noel has is that a healthy Embiid is much better then him and as he clearly has stated more then once he views himself as a starter. I just don't see how he gets anymore then 20 minutes once Embiid is fully healthy. He wants a max deal. I mean the writing is on the wall in big bold impact font.

Why not? It's not a though Philly will be competing with GS for a few years anyway. If GS were to offer up a couple of #1's as the poster suggested and that's about as good as you can get, it at least gives you some return while shipping him far away from the Eastern Conference. He would probably also seriously consider re-upping in GS and keep him far away for a long time. Hey, if the offers are mid level guys or a little above that with someone like M. Smart, I'll take the late first rounders and ship him to the other conference. It would be a boon for GS, but that may be what we are looking at right now. Noel is doing himself and the Sixers no favors at the moment, although this type of move would work out extremely well for him.
Why not?
I try not to read Keith Pompey 'analysis'. He writes like he's chiseling stone. Nevertheless, he reported the following:
"The third-year player (Noel) will head into this season with 251 steals and 242 blocks. As a result, he and Hall of Famer David Robinson are the only two players to record at least 250 steals and 240 blocks during their first two seasons, dating to the 1973-74 season."
Golden State needs him to insure they get in the finals again and probably win a second championship. But two '28' picks are meaningless.
As for Noel's 'free agency' status, he will become a restricted free agent next June. I suspect that fewer than 5% of young players don't test the market which means, if an offer is made, their current teams have a 100% chance to match. Which (bigger picture) means: Noel, unless he goes down with an injury this year, will be under contract for four and perhaps five years.
A team that needs an athletic, defensive-oriented center - who can run the floor - would be foolish not to trade draft picks for him. My only concern is that the Colangelos will move him for garbage. They can sit and wait - for the whole season if necessary - and then match any offer if they wish.
And Noel might not be pleased, but he really doesn't have any say in the matter if the Sixers wish to match his $18-plus offer. And he will take the offer rather than risk losing $70 million/$80 million-plus due to an injury.
To your question, why not? Because it would be a stupid move to trade him for nothing. Of course you can find nuggets at 30, 29 or 28, but it really is a long shot.

Saric is a bench player. There is no reason to feel that he won't accept hat role. He can backup the 3 and 4, and still play 25-30 min.

You're lecturing the wrong guy here. If you go back and look at my posts on Noel, I have been an advocate of exactly the same position you just took in your last paragraph. I'd rather see them take that approach in fact and believe that offers could improve by the trade deadline. The point however, was that if BC is determined to trade Noel before the season begins and the fact is that Philly will only trade him at a discounted value, I would just assume take the discount and send him to the Western Conference than take a discount and keep him in our own backyard. Mind you, this only matters to the extent that BC feels his hand is forced and Noel is becoming a cancer that he feels he has to move. I didn't think Noel would do that, but I'm not as sure lately.

I feel the same way.
If we are going to trade him for a discount it will be to a western conference team. We can trade him for a discount now, or at the deadline.
I don't think he will be on the Sixers when his restricted free agency begins.
I'm prepared to trade him for the best crappy offer from the western conference that we get between now and February, but I only trade him quickly if there becomes other problems, or we get a fair offer.

unless you know what you're doing. watching Ian Clarke and Pat McCaw take GSW past the Kings the other night. currently competing for 3rd pg spot, Ian looks like a starter on a lot of teams, and Pat's got the higher ceiling.

You've got to be kidding - to draw any conclusions from a pre-season game against a perennial non-playoff team whose best player played 21 minutes. I didn't watch the game, but come on. Ian Clarke has played in fewer than 40 games/year in his first three years, around 8 minutes per game. Pat McCaw? Sometimes you get lucky or everybody else strikes out, but don't hold your breath.

Okafor is tied up for a few more years with us so he doesn't have a choice. If he can get 28-30 min between the 4 and the 5 then it can work.

and how is Green working out for them? they picked him late as well. (seriously, check out the press and comments on McCaw. Derek was big on him, I believe.)

I could see Chicago as a dark horse trade partner for Noel. Wonder if they'd be willing to part with Valentine.

They've had three hits on late first-round and second-round picks in 25 years - anywhere between 10% and 12% depending on how you count including Green. 6'7" guys are a dime-a-dozen. 6'11" guys aren't.
