What do you think are the worst NFL rules?

Post#1 » by bwgood77 » Mon Oct 10, 2016 2:53 am

One of the worst is if you fumble a ball out of the end zone that the other team gets it on the 20. Anywhere else you fumble it out of bounds, you get it there.

Maybe they shouldn't get it on the 1 or anything, but the offensive team, and not the defensive team, if anyone gets it on the 20, is the team that should get it if someone is going to get it there. The offensive team maybe should get it closer to the end zone imo.

There are others I will mention later if this thread has any activity, but that is pretty ridiculous.

I'm actually not entirely opposed to the fumbling through the end zone rule. It doesn't entirely make sense, but that's how a lot of rules are. I'm fine with it.

A few which I would really like to see changed:

Taunting and celebration penalties - I get the taunting rules, but they've been way too tight on them. Let the players talk smack, when the game gets heated it gets fun to watch. I don't get the celebration rules. Why the hell does a player deserve a fine for dunking the ball over the goalpost? As long as it isn't causing the game to be delayed, let the players celebrate!

Every team must be given a prime time game (more of a policy than a rule) - Come on. Nobody wants to watch the Titans vs. Lions. Let the best teams have the best games. I'm actually in favor of allowing the Sunday night slot the ultimate flexing ability.

Dictating what the players wear - Who the hell cares if Antonio Brown wants to wear cleats with his kids faces or with Muhammad Ali on them? As long as they are abiding by basic uniform rules, let them have some individuality.

Instant replay/challenges - Automatically review every scoring play and turnover, along with plays within the last two minutes. Along with that, allow absolutely everything and anything to be challengable by the coaches, and give them a third challenge.

Last, and I'm not as sure that I'm sold on this one...

Stop the clock on first downs in the last two minutes - Would certainly alter the game, and I'm not sure how I would like it if they actually did something like this, but it is interesting to think about. There are a lot of pros that could come from a change like this.

the uniform policy is f*ckin stupid

it's the only football league in the world that doesnt know what a catch is

a 5 yard defensive holding shouldn't be an automatic 1st down. pass interference at the spot i think is to big a game changer too cause i dont think the refs know how to call it most the time. maybe do a 15 and 25 yard penalty

any taunting or celebration penalty is f*ckin stupid

not really a rule but more of a gripe, but i think the refs are a joke when it comes to spotting the ball. id love to see a study done on how bad they are at where they set a ball. id bet at the very least 10-20 yards a game

yes spot pass interference is bad considering how much it impacts the outcome and arbitrary decision making of the officials
