Brock Osweiler = Scott Mitchell

Post#1 » by flow » Mon Oct 10, 2016 4:26 pm

In 1993, Scott Mitchell stepped in for Dan Marino and looked deceptively decent for a string of games just like Osweiler did for Manning last year.

Mitchell, like Osweiler, was a big, tall kid with a strong arm who looked good standing in the pocket.

The Lions, like Houston this year, took the bate and signed Mitchell to a big contract to be their starter.

Mitchell was terrible for the Lions. Osweiler looks the part in Houston.

Scott Mitchell is the benchmark for spare QB's hitting the gold mine as a backup. Osweiler definitely looks like this year's candidate.

There's one every year.

This is not entirely true. At least Scott Mitchell squeezed out one monster year. In '95, he hit on 59% of his passes (good enough back then), 4300 yards, 32 TDs to only 12 picks. He laid a turd in the playoffs that year, but hey, what do you expect when you play for the Lions? Brock Osweiler will never see that kind of success.
