I think at his absolute best, he can be what Derrick Williams was for the Knicks last season. A high energy 3/4 hybrid who can attack the paint and shoot the occasional 3. Sadly, I think it would be a miracle to see him get to that level.

He shot 60% from deep last game, not bad

Bennett is a player who will show flashes of a real contributor at an NBA level, but his BBIQ is extremely low - Thomas Robinson level. So far, he's occasionally found the range from 3 or found ways to get to the line, only to mitigate his contributions with some routine mental lapses - the kind that are infuriating for fans to watch. For as much as CMC has shown absolutely nothing when he fails to do simple stuff, like remember to box out as soon as the ball goes up, lose his man defensively, making himself "small" when setting screens, Benett has made a habit of the very same bball errors. So far, Benett seems like the type of player who will follow up a decent play with a maddening defensive mistake.

Bennett has horrible BBIQ in general, but it's somehow even worse on the defensive end. Was losing Whiteside who got wide open dunks all game last night.

Even if he's developed the ability to shoot the three, he's still a net negative on the court--and his role is redundant--as the Nets already have 2 other players like him in Scola/Hamilton (bigs with range + 0 defense).

I'm not sure why this team doesn't have a cheap defensive specialist big-man who does nothing but rebound (play Mock?!?), because that's the look they need to mix things up.

All this said, because of the contract they gave Bennett, I'm sure he'll be on the team this year as a project, but this guy has a low-motor + poor instincts + bad BBIQ. I've got no hope.
On October 31, 2009, against the Kings, a bat descended onto the court causing a stoppage of play. As the bat flew past, GinĂ³bili swatted the bat to the ground with his hand. He then carried the creature off the court, earning the applause of the crowd.

nets do need a defensive big indeed. hamilton and bennett were exposed. they really have to limit bennett in regular season which will happen cause he has guys ahead of him in the rotation. i think he can be a decent bench guy for 10 to 15 minutes max.
