Justise Winslow Watch

Post#1 » by twix2500 » Thu Oct 13, 2016 9:55 pm

Wanted to create a trend so we can debate and track Justise Winslow development.

For the first 3 games of the preseason here is his average.

8 pts, 42 FG%, 28.6 3pt%, 4.3 rbs, 3 asst, 23.7 mins.

Track and debate or scrutinize and criticize? From preseason numbers, seems like the latter

Guys are way too critical of a second year player (20 yr old), type of players y'all want him to be didn't develop until a few seasons were under their belt

IMO he's looked just fine outside of some low iq rookie mistakes here and there

No one said anything negative yet. Regardless, he is forbidden to have criticism?

I haven't seen any games yet. So I have no idea why he is struggling thus far. I have a feeling, correct me if Im wrong, he may be too focus on trying to prove he can shoot threes instead of playing his game and letting his shot complement his game.

Its only preseason. let the actual rotation play, with all the min they will get, & after about 25 games, then we should have a better assessment of his game. Till then im not going to get to high, or to low on how they play. I just want to see them gel for the 1st two month.

idk, maybe I'm reading into too many things. Winslow Watch does seem a little critical/punitive

I hope you guys aren't expecting any significant improvement on the offensive side. Dude was abysmal last year and it's doubtful much has changed in a matter of few months. It's going to be at least a year, if not two, until we see him with a ball in his hands on a regular basis and as a finisher.

Keep that in mind and you won't be dissapointed. His defense is already miles ahead of 90% of wing players. Anything outside fastbreak points is just a bonus.

Gotta admit it's hard to get excited for Winslow this season cause he's basically two different players on offense and defense.
Defense: omg future superstar.
Offense: he's two years away from being two years away.

2016
ORL Summer League: 4 G | 48% TS | 12-2-2-1 | 14.8 PER
Vegas Summer League: 2 G | 58% TS | 4-2 | -0.2 PER
PRESEASON: 6 G | 40% TS | 6-6-3-1 | 9.6 PER
SEASON: 78 G | 49% TS | 6-5-2-1 | 8.3 PER
PLAYOFFS: 13 G | 52% TS | 7-5-1-1 | 10.4 PER

2017
ORL Summer League: 3 G | 44% TS | 16-4-2-2 | 17.1 PER
PRESEASON (so far): 3 G | 49% TS | 8-4-3 | 9.7 PER

I would wait a bit more for a more accurate evaluation. It seems like he is coming along slowly.

I think the issue is some fans expecting him to turn into something he's not. He's never going to be that guy on offense. He's not a primary scorer, or a secondary scorer. He's a guy that hopefully becomes a lockdown defender, and gets points here and there on offense.

That can be a very valuable player as long as he's not totally inept on offense, which he shouldn't be.

That's pretty much the way I look at it. With Winslow, defense is the key. For now, and likely permanently. But definitely for now. If he shines there, he's earning his money and justifying his draft slot.

People are expecting him to be Kawhi, when he is more MKG, which is still a solid starter.

The ones that are criticizing his game are the same ones irritated by the Kawhi, Butler, PG13 comparisons he gets, and objectively see his potential more on MKG level.

Hopefully Winslow will be better than Michael Kidd-Gilchrist ... but yeah, pretty much.

Justise is a player that if you look at the box score you will feel nothing but disappointment. He is more of a defense player now and we hope he can find better offense. His game now does not show up on a box score. Every player grows at a different pace.

He's going to prove a lot of people wrong. Amazing that because he's not an instant superstar like Wade you have people putting a very low ceiling on him.
