only if he was our 4th OF and getting paid like one

I'm okay with him in LF and Puig in RF. Yeah, I'm not into paying him really big bucks but I don't want to lose him for nothing either

do we need him in the LF? we will have Toles and Thompson back and Kendrick will be on the roster too. our OF will be crowded with

Puig/Joc/Thompson/Toles/****/Kendrick

if we end up signing back Reddick to trade away Puig for pennys on the dollar, I would **** recent that for years. if we get Hill back, that would be worth enough for the assets we traded away. getting Reddick back is only worth it if we keep Puig.

BTW i just want to say that I am so glad that the FO traded for Ruiz and let Ellis the fan favorite finally go. he couldnt hit, he couldnt frame, and he couldn't be counted on in times like these.

Field the Best Team Possible Within Reason

I don't like the idea of this being an either/or proposition for the Dodgers. We have the money to stack our roster with the best players available to us. It's hard enough to trade for talent given the lack of availability of truly premium talent, so letting them go for nothing does not appeal to me, in general. However, at the same time, I'm not backing the Brinks truck for Reddick either. If we can retain his services at a reasonable rate and contract length, it allows us to field a more talented outfield, which we can trade from later on.

I hate the idea of trading Puig just to keep Reddick and I like it less if we have to trade Puig at a discount in order to do so. Yeah, our outfield is crowded, but I'm still looking to offload Ethier's final year in the offseason even with eating a large chunk of his remaining salary.

Toles looks like a keeper, but it's been only a year, so I'd like to see him establish himself more to see if he reverts to to previous form where he was struggling previously to the point of being out of baseball. I've always liked Thompson as a 4th outfielder and he has yet to establish himself with consistency or longevity in production.

Kendrick doesn't really belong in the outfield but he's been serviceable in LF even with the noodle arm. Maybe he'll take over for Utley at 2B. Utley has been tailing off as the season progressed and he's batting .188 in the postseason even with the clutch hit in Game 4. **** is a utility player who's also looked uncomfortable on the outfield grass. He hasn't been batting well of late either even as a platoon-split player.

The bottom line is that if we can retain him on a reasonable deal, I'd like to give Reddick a chance to rebound as a National Leaguer in LF with Puig still in the fold. It allows us to evaulate and make trades later down the road. If the other aforementioned players are grumbling, then I make efforts to trade them away for assets in return. They don't take precedence to fielding the best team possible for the Dodgers.

Kershaw Prepping for the 9th Inning

Post#240 » by Ranma » Fri Oct 14, 2016 4:18 am

I'm usually against using our ace on short rest again, but given the circumstances, I think it's the only move we can make in this situation in this do-or-die situation. Kershaw is not going to start Game 1 or 2 in the NLCS, anyway, so we might as well use him now even at the expense of taxing him even further. This at least, will give him an opportunity for his gamer approach to hopefully add positively to his postseason legacy.

I also would have personally preferred to have Urias ready to start Game 1 of the NLCS should we get there, but that went out the window with his appearance today, but at least he came up big for us here and now. I'm really not liking Maeda as our Game 1 starter at the moment, but we have no other options left.
