Post game video review: 10/13 vs Kings

Read on Twitter

Team defense: effort level wasn't there, Julius Randle stood out for poor effort. lots of miscommunication, mental mistakes. still foul prone. Tolliver made several shots that were just great shots over good defense. kings took advantage of switching defense by posting up mismatches. Lakers actually did a good job of staying in front of their man throughout game, Deng stood out in this.

D'Angelo Russell: Kings played PnR different, hard hedge or trap allowing Russell to rack up more assists. Made a lot of good reads, hit players coming off screens well. got his points off post ups, off ball movement, spot ups.

Jordan Clarkson: increased use of screens, attacked close outs. forced up a couple of bad shots. stripped a few times trying to set up PnR

Julius Randle: Mixed bag of good and bad plays. Continued to attack in transition. created a few shots for others off mismatches. had some good screens, and not so good screens.

THe lack of effort on defensive end is a bit inexcusable. Missing make-able shots can all be worked on in due time while the offense will come with enough repetitions but you cannot half ass on simple plays by not getting back or failing to pick up ball handlers in transition.

With D'Lo I think people focus too much on how many assists he has as a PG. His ability to manuever the Pick-n-Roll and consistently make the proper reads is on another level. His assists totals will go up but, after watching the breakdown vidoes for the first few games, it's clear he completely understands and knows how to run the offense.
Talking about how bad Julius Randle is:

Defense is 80% effort, 10% talent and 10% scheme. Lacking the one thing that yields the greatest results in inexcusable. Especially so, when the team is so young.

I love these videos. I wish that Russell and Randle would show more effort on defense though.

Baby steps, I guess.
