we could always use Kershaw as a pinch hitter. Puig can double as an emergency catcher, ****'s versatility comes through being able to play just about anywhere other than the mound and behind the plate, we are gonna need situational pitchers in this series against Rizzo, Bryant, Baez, and others who can bring a bat in crucual moments with so much power and lefty-righty matchup nightmares with one too few situational pitchers. I woluld have preferred Coleman for their power righties for sure. Dayton should strickly be used against lefties only here.

Agree on Coleman.

I may be willing to go 12 players, 13 pitchers by dropping Ethier but not 11. Maddon's chess move is to double up on lefties in his pen. I'd like to stay flexible so we can play that game of chess with him and win it.

After our normal 8 I like:
Chooch
****
Howie
Puig

Flexible. Can field multiple positions. That leaves Ethier off (Toles is in the "normal 8"). I'd honestly hate to pluck one more off from that 4.

one more glaring issue especially for tonight...

I want Kenta to face exactly 18 batters. thats it. whether that comes at the end of the 6th or in the middle of the 4th, Kenta should only face the Cubs lineup just twice for the obvious issues. we should then depending on the sitation of tie, winning, or losing and by how many runs we are up or down by, Wood, Stripling, Blanton, or Fields should be considered. Urias should be either given a night off, or be the 8th inning set up guy. Avilan, Dayton, and Baez should strictly be used as spot relievers tonight.

if we have say 2 run lead and Kenta makes it to the end of the 5th, throw the kitchen sink at them in 6th and 7th depending on the situation, then Urias or Joe in the 8th, and get out of the game 1 with Jansen to close. that would be ideal.

of course there is that unlikely potential of beating up on Lester early and make it a blow out, but this game is either gonna be 2-1, 1-0, 3-2 type of close game or we are gonna get blown out if Kenta has a melt down early.

if Pitching can't hold, no amount of useful bench pieces will make any impact what so ever tonight.
ehhhhh f it.

Roster Replacements

Post#282 » by Ranma » Sat Oct 15, 2016 7:02 pm

I'm happy to hear that Wood made the NLCS roster for the Dodgers. Before he went down, he was effectively pitching like Scherzer. He'll be a lethal weapon out of the bullpen assuming he's recuperated and ready. Heck, he might even be an option as a starter given the short rest for our other starters. I don't like that Barnes was sent down but I get why **** was brought in given his versatility and production against Lester; he's reportedly starting in Game 1.

I'm not going to miss Culberson's bat from the roster, but I hope we sit Grandal in favor of Ruiz today as the idea has been floating around Twitter. Grandal has been a goat while Ruiz has come up big. I also hope Puig gets the start today. His power could play up in the friendly confines of Wrigley Field and, as we've discussed previously, his defense is better than Reddick's.

I orignially posted my preferred lineup specifically for game 1 against Lester first before I changed my mind about pitchers/batters ratio on the roster a few posts earlier, but yeah I agree. Grandal could use extra rest while his switch bat comes in very handy in the late innings.

for game 1 against Lester

1. R LF Kendrick
2. R RF Puig
3. L SS Seager
4. R 3B Turner
5. R C Ruiz
6. L 1B Gonzo
7. R 2B ****
8. pitcher spot
9. L CF Joc

this way, Joc is still in for his great defense in the center field while his lefty bat is pushed back until hopefully we push Lester out for a right handed middle relieve. **** is essentially the traditional 8th spot hitter in this scenario with ability to swtich over to any other defensive postion other than pitching and catching, allowing Doc to double switch if needed on either Joc's, Kendricks, Puigs, even Seager or Turner's spot thereafter in the late innings.

Lineup for Game 1 of NLCS

Post#284 » by Ranma » Sat Oct 15, 2016 10:21 pm

I actually like the lineup put together for today's game given our options. I'm concerned with Kershaw pitching on short rest tomorrow for Game 2 but it seems to be the only choice that could really be made as long as Kershaw says he's good to go.

I would be wary station kershaw in game 2.
I also wouldn't use Jansen tonight if we can help it.

Game 1 should be about surviving to game 2.

Also want to see urias get a start. Game 5 wasn't too big of a spot for him.

He is going to be the Dodgers 1B Starting pitcher soon
USA Celtics in full effect. Amazing chemistry building experience right there for the main core of the team

Proceeds to finish 7th and shames the entire nation!

with all the accolades and recognitions Maeda has won in Japan, I don't believe the Carps ever reached league championship series let alone the Japan series until this very year behind the old man Kuroda. but baseball is still baseball, and there are more than 100 milion people in Japan and their baseball media is far more national, like our football and much less regional, like our MLB. he has been exposed to pressure situations. let's see what he is made of.

and SCREW PETE ROSE! calling for a 4 game sweep by the cubs. **** you cheater I used to pull for you to enter the HOF but you are a **** for life!

keys to winning the game..
#1 Maeda cannot walk Fowler. Dexter batted .268 against RH starters but recorded .385 OBP with .393 OBP total. cannot walk this guy.
#2 Puig Puig Puig. he has to show up. we need his big bat and must balance between his aggression and patience. need his glove, need him to show the total package or something close to it. he must outperform Reddick clearly not just for this game and this series, but for the 2017 and beyond. he is clearly the better talent and must remind his teammates and FO how much better he is.
#3 Dave Roberts must use the bullpen better than Mattingly can only dream of. he has been better than average but had his moments of over-using or over thinking. don't rely on spot relievers who overperformed in regular season to face opposing handed batsmen. keep them and use them accordingly. in other words, don't let Dayton happen again. no need to keep a lefty specialist to face a right handed batter with power, or visa versa
#4 pitch selection. the wind is blowing out, crush em.
#5 Ruiz's pitch selection. don't let the flyballs get crushed.
#6 Pantone 294 needs to show up and cheer hard. it is a loud, hostile crowd and our boys need every support they can get, and keep them loose as well as possible.

well the anthem is being sang, and as typical of Chicago, it's a fat low key guy who can't get to the high notes but only can drag it out!!!! we got this! come on lets go!!!!!

man Seager gets a single and Puig hits it into the dirt for a force out.

4 batters, 1 hit and 3 outs, and only 11 pitches wasted... we have got to do better and be more disciplined!!!! ****

**** I know Im too damn pumped up and just posting in here by myself but the ball Bryant hit over Kedrick's head was pulled. the last two flyballs to Kendrick was to the opposite field and did not carry. Kenta is at least starting to hit his spots.

okay 0-1 first inning. we just gotta go get em now. we are alright. just be **** patient for a change at the plate!

great at bat by Ruiz so far. too bad Gonzo has no speed but at least he got the lead off hit.

full count now. Ruiz can now sit on a fastball
