Is Brock Osweiler already a bust?
I thought he would have a breakout year this year, especially when he has 2 elite WRs, but its turning into a bust year for Osweiler.
Did Elway make the right move in letting Osweiler walk and not over paying him? Did Houston make a big mistake in overpaying for the 6th year QB?

Re: Is Brock Osweiler already a bust?
I wouldn´t say he´s a bust but it´s no surprise that he won´t deliver his contract´s worth... But let´s wait a few more games, the lose of JJ Watt is awful for the whole squad, not only the Texans´ secondary.

Minnesota made him look bad but they're the best D in the league. He's still learning, I wouldn't write him off yet

I don't know that he's a bust. But he needs to step it up if the Texans are going to do anything with this sorry division.

This is starting to look like the Matt Cassel situation all over again.

Re: Is Brock Osweiler already a bust?
I really thought he was going to have a successful career as well, and I didn't think signing him was a terrible idea. But he hasn't done much yet. I mean he's looked okay in all of his games except against Minnesota, who make everyone look bad, but he just hasn't impressed me yet. I'm not ready to call him a bust, but I need to see more than what he's given us so far.

He's a first time full time starter, so I'd give him a little time before calling him a bust, but if there is a need to classify him as a success or a bust after 5 games, then yes, I'd go with the latter.

Re: Is Brock Osweiler already a bust?
I say a major yes. He has weapons all around him and 2 drafted O-lineman. He's making bad decisions, bad reads and making horrible throws. Doesn't seem to be comfortable at all with this team and offense. Plays like he is always confused. I think he is having a hard time reading defenses.

It's not just Minnesota, he was horrible against Denver too.
He gets paid too much to excuse his erratic play because the defense was good. He isn't getting paid to only play well against bad defenses, he's getting paid to play well against playoff teams too cause I know playoffs is where Houston envisioned the Texans being in after investing so much money into their QB and RB.

To be fair, those are literally the top two defenses in the league. He's still very young and I think he picks it up a bit as the season goes on. But I don't see him becoming an elite player like I once thought he could.

Re: Is Brock Osweiler already a bust?
When did he play against Denver? You mean KC or NE?
I'm not very optimistic about him either at this point, but I'd like to see what he can do as he continues to develop and if he had a better O-Line/running game to work with. Really sucks we lost Brooks in the offseason and that Martin got hurt.
I'm starting to lose patience with BOB, though. It seems whenever they go up against a legit opponent their balls drop off and they come out unprepared and undisciplined and get embarrassed.
WR screen play on 4th and 16...damn you, Ass Chin.
The Texans just aren't a good team right now overall, hard to put it all on Osweiler but he has definitely been disappointing thus far.

Re: Is Brock Osweiler already a bust?
Two pieces of evidence that suggest he is:
1. John Elway got to see this guy more than anyone, four years. If he was franchise QB material, and John Elway knows a thing or two about franchise QBs, he would still be a Bronco.
2. Picture his face and say to yourself "Matt Flynn". It fits.

Carson Wentz and Dak Prescott are still learning. Brock is just not very good. This is his fifth year. He has some experience as a starter. He lost his job last year to the 28th ranked QB in the league who had a dead arm and was throwing 2 picks to every TD pass. Houston is kind of a dumb franchise and ignored these obvious clues to his ability and gave him a lot of money anyway.

We should wait until the season his team is not hosting the Super Bowl.

Houston would have been better off keeping Brian Hoyer.

I'm assuming you did not watch every Texans game where Hoyer played.
Even if Osweiler does not work out (and it's too early to say that, despite the knee-jerk reactions), the Texans had to make a move at that position. They ended up making several moves on the offense, and the team is only 5 games into the season. The one thing that is a certainty at this point is that they could not keep going the direction in which that they were going, and that meant a change at the QB position.

Brock Osweiler straight up has worse career numbers than Brian Hoyer. Hoyer has a career QBR of 85 and Osweiler has a career QBR of 80. Hoyer is close to a 2:1 TD to INT ratio lifetime and Osweiler is just a bit better than 1:1. They're essentially even at completion percentage, however Hoyer was leading the league in that stat going into this weekend. Hoyer even had a 10-6 record as a starter for the Browns. How many Browns QBs can you dig up that posted a winning record with that dumpster fire? In his one year in Houston, he was a respectable 5-4, threw for 2600 yards in 11 games including 9 starts and threw 19 TDs to 7 INTs.
From where I'm sitting, the Texans feeling like they needed to make a change led them to pay a bunch of money so they could get worse at the QB position.

Again. 5 games in. Maybe it won't work out, maybe it will.

Re: Is Brock Osweiler already a bust?
Regarding Hoyer, I think after the disaster(putting it lightly) that was his performance against KC in the playoffs, there was no chance of him coming back here.
Speaking of that game, that was probably the beginning of my frustration with BOB. Hoyer was his guy, and not benching him in the second half to at least give Weeden a chance(yes, our QB situation really is that awful) was inexcusable. He promptly came out and almost threw yet another interception on the very first drive.
Anyways, that was last year. I agree that so far this season Brock has been disappointing, to say the least, but I'll wait and see how it plays out for a bit longer before I completely write him off.
If he comes out tonight and lights it up, of course it will be because the Colts defense is injured(and awful), but if he pulls a Hoyer vs. KC type performance, well, then maybe we can start with the burning of the effigy and run him out of town.

Also fifth year in the league, not a rookie. Couldn't hold a starting job that fell in his lap despite a nice array of weapons. Lost it to a man who could barely throw anymore. We've heard this story before. He is exactly what we are seeing because we've seen this from him before. The Texans gave second tier QB money to a below average QB who is worse than the guy he replaced. I see nothing from this guy that would lead anyone to believe that we'll ever see anything better than what he has shown. He's a little bit inaccurate, rattles under pressure, has a very slow delivery and for someone of his size, doesn't even have a particularly great arm.
