Upon Further Contemplation

Post#483 » by Ranma » Mon Oct 17, 2016 2:31 am

I would have preferred Kershaw, but for some reason, I forgot about his pitching on continually short rest recently. While I don't like Kenley coming in for 6 outs, I can't really fault Dave Roberts for going to our closer right now.

6 out save?

Well, we protected a Kershaw start in the postseason.

But sheesh I am worried about this move.

knowing Kershaw has a play option to get out of the current deal after next season, I think there is a real understanding that if we abuse his innings and get him hurt to take the next season off, we get to have him back for the remainder of the current deal. for our franchise we have nothing to lose for having Kershaw pitch in game 4 in 2 days rest and skip Urias to have him ready for possible game 7.

Kershaw left with 84 pitch count. he could be ready on a short rest if we need him to.

Kenley has to get through the 1-2-3.

I'm not gonna lie. I am shook.

Fingers crossed...the whole 9.

Kenley K's the Cubs in 8th Inning

Post#491 » by Ranma » Mon Oct 17, 2016 2:37 am

Kenley was just filthy in that 8th inning showing me up and I'm happy that he did. I just hope he has just as much to finish it off in the 9th inning.

in a way this is an audition for the next season's closer job. Jansen wants to stay, and we will probably offer him the QO, but will be take it if there are better offers? and Chapman would be the replacement we could afford, or add to. I don't think the Cubs can offer him a QO as he was a mid season trade, so we have the front row seat to this working job interview!

Handling Kershaw

I don't like the idea of abusing Kershaw since we're the most likely team to sign him, anyway, even if he does opt out, but the benefit of him missing time due to the back issue is that he has less innings from the regular season on his arm for hopefully a better postseason performance.

you are probably right and I am showing through my sociopathic tendencies I have worked so hard to lose for the last 2 decades, lol but hey I am just saying we are all in. that is all.

but you are right brother. I won't argue against your reasoning.
