Re: The Official Off-Season Thread, part I of many
I'm guessing that that lane/rim protector will have to wait until next year, with either another FA or Zizic. I don't see too much rim protection in next year's lottery, with the possible exception of Marques Bolden. There are some tall international players, but none with a solid 250 lb. build like Zizic's.
As for the shooter, maybe Gerald Green can return to the form he displayed 2 years ago and play a little defense. I have no interest in Rudy Gay, who has made every team he's been on worse, not better. I have no interest in McLemore either, who plays with about as much passion as a dead fish.
Matt Bonner, anyone? He'll come cheap and he knows how to play. Scalabrine II.

I know the 'intangibles' argument with Gay. He is a scorer, though. And you can always flip him. He made things worse in Toronto by being an offensive bottleneck. He was traded by the Grizzlies for his huge contract and 'empty' stats. Whether he's made Sacramento worse, I think, is debatable. And it's about time in his career where a good coach might help him evolve to another level.
Mclemore I've been a fan of for awhile. He plays good D, which shows 'passion.' I'd say he's passive on offense, but there are a ton of reasons for that other than talent- he may need better, more patient coaching to help him understand what he can do without the ball in his hands. He may need Bradley-esque usage to build his confidence. Or just encouragement to build his confidence. He's also literally been the 4th man in Sacramento's offense his whole career, while he's supposed to be developing his game. Collison freelances at the top of the key, or Rondo pounds the ball. Cousins is a usage monster, and Gay is the second option on offense. So when you've got youth, inexperience, limited confidence, and limited creativity off the ball, fourth option on a team with dominant, even overbearing personalities, that's not the same as lack of raw talent.
That deal also helps our cap, and gets Koufos. Forgot, btw, that Zeller can't be traded until January. Looking at the salary numbers now.

Re: The Official Off-Season Thread, part I of many
FWIW, apparently Mclemore's been "on the table" for the entire summer. I doubt there's no interest, so probably no one's made an offer the Kings like. Would love to gamble on him to step up if we find an Avery Bradley trade that's too good to pass on.

Unrelated - has anyone talked about Smart, or to Smart about, developing a post game? Gary Payton had a great one, Smart's would be different, but when he doesn't have the first step to get past people, and his strength is an asset, there are plenty of points he could back down easily.

Needed some Celtics, media day wasn't getting it done, so I went and re-watched Summer League highlights. In particular, just watch Rozier's twice in a row.
Yeah, Summer League is Summer League. Still...

Crowder and Horford in the top 25. Advanced stat darlings KO and Amir in 26-50 range.

I just realized... we're almost ready to let this thread fall into the abyss, where it belongs.

The hubris of SmartWentCrazy's title should be a warning to all of us.

JR to Boston story line has resurfaced. Someone on here confirmed there was truth to Boston's interest. I'd be very interested in this. He's a douche but he'd be possible big time addition for us. Especially keeping him off the Cavs.

There's no possible way we can offer him 9mil like the wiretap suggests, without a trade. At most, we can clear about 1.1mil after waiving our training camp invitees, or use the room exception (~2.9mil).
We're not acquiring JR Smith. This report is bogus.

I'm sure we are interested, I just don't know what the other moves would be.
We're also in uncharted territory with ESPN money, and it's possible Cleveland is reaching the limit of what they can pay for their team. Raising the bidding price for Smith is underhanded, but not something I think Ainge would scrupulously avoid.

I don't mind them at all, personally. I think they fit just fine.
