192 picks in less than 9 days. Not bad.

Can we discuss strategies now ?

I tried to conbuild, picking guys close to their prime which still have some 3 or 4 years left in the tank, and later on snatching guys who could have breakout seasons.

I did go young at some points where a more established veteran was available (Turner over Gortat for example ) but only when the youngster had a clear path to playing time.

Overall I believe the bias towards youth was way too high, and people might regret this mid season when they are out of title contention.

Awesome pick. If anything happens to Wade, Valentine will light up the stat sheet. I had my eye on him and was hoping he would go undrafted so i could snag him on the waiver wire if need be.

I was super high on him leading up to the draft. Not to mention Tony Snell being bodes well for him. They need guys on the floor who can shoot, and he's one of them.

Good pick. I was planning on moving picking him up after moving payne to the IR. Dont regret my payne pick though. I think hes a sleepy late season sleeper because if OKC is winning they could flip him to a pg needy team for a win now piece or if it all goes to hell for OKC i could see them blow it up and deal westbrook and go young with payne as the starting pg. Or nothing will happen and Ill cut him because hes 3rd string behind ronnie price :)

I kind of did the same. Felt vets fell a bit and were just too good to pass up. I took a swing early with embiid figuring if he does pan out he could be a top ten guy. Took less swings with the middle of the pack young guys because you only keep 7 so a guy really needs to be top 100 next year to justify keeping. If we were keeping say 10 guys I would have drafted differently.

Do you guys purposely punt categories? I kind of avoid it. There will always be some you end up weaker at but i still want to finish middle and not last. Really hard to actually win finishing last in even one category.

I picked young guys I could build on, guys in their prime to play a few seasons with and vets that can keep me competitive that I can drop next season.

Starting the draft, I was thinking about going with youth early, but I didn't feel comfortable taking Giannis over Durant with the 4th pick. After that I just kept seeing really good players still available so I resigned myself to going BPA for most of the draft, age be damned. Once I had a good group of established players, I decided to take some upside picks late. Bender was the biggest blessing being there in round 9 - he's definitely going to be on my roster for at least 3 seasons, hoping for 10 though. I think McCaw, Valentine, and Kyle Anderson all have the potential to contribute in a lot of categories should they get opportunity and develop. Overall, I am very pleased with the way this draft turned out.

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Punting in Roto is a losing strategy. It doesnt work.

This was my strat:

1. Grab high end youngsters (23-27 years old), that can contribute right away and in the future. When i was stuck with the 16th pick this strategy got thrown out the window.
2. After getting Lebron/CP3 with my 1st 2 picks, it became clear to me that i was being forced to win now. It really benefited me, as i feel that some people put way too high of a value on Youth. It allowed guys like Aldridge/Lopez to fall to me, thus making them a great value.
3. Midway through i tried getting a few guys who i feel like are a bit younger than my previous 4, but were also good contributers and will be so for the next 6-7 years (Anderson/Kanter).
4. Realizing i was severly lacking in the Guard department, i had to go after who ever was left. It was a toss up between Monte Ellis and Eric Gordon. I had Gordon all typed up and was waiting on the next 2 people to pick so i could hit post, but changed my mind at the last second. I needed steals more than anything and thats what Monte is good at. I also figured he has been injured a hell of a lot less and would be getting way more minutes, as Gordon was coming off the bench (A day later Gordon becomes a starter). Murray was/is my Keeper youngin. I see bright things for his future. He tore up summer league. He has had a great pre-season. Might turn out to be a much better player and fit than their current PG Mudiay (who i was also able to snag with the next pick; Handcuff).
5. With my 2 youngsters in tow, it was time to fill the roster with win-now vets. Noah/Williams/Barnes, come on down!

I look at it this way, i am in a position to win now and still be competitive for the next 3-4 years (As long as Lebron and CP3 are in the league they will be competitive). I have a couple of youngsters that i can evaluate this season (Kanter/Mudiay/Murray). Murray is the one that i think will be a break out player and future all-star. With this Dynasty League, we are only keeping 7 or 8 players (Still have no idea what the real number is), so i dont see the reasoning in grabbing some guys that will take years and years to maybe have a shot at getting good (Bender and others like him), while not really contributing anything for your team this year or in the next year. Remember guys like Biedrins or Anthony Randolph, passed the eye test, had potential, but just never quite got it all together. I remember burning fantasy draft picks on AR for like 2 years in a row, now imagine you took him his rookie season in a dynasty league. How many years do you keep him, knowing that you have already invested a roster spot on him for years and got absolutely nothing in return from him stat wise. Seriously. look at your squad and try to come up with which 7-8 guys you plan on holding over till next season. Those ultra youngster better be in that group as they will be not helping you one bit for now. Now look at the guys you will have to throw back. I can tell you right now, Noah/Williams/Barnes/Ellis/(1 of Kanter or Mudiay) are my throwbacks, but all will help and provide this season.

If this was a complete keeper league where you have a chance to keep anybody and everybody on your team, i would have went with a totally different strat, but knowing that 4 or 5 guys will have to be thrown back in the mix, that really cause me to not go with a ton of ultra young guys with potential, but go with a more balanced squad of vets who have actually realized and reached their potential.

1st tier

Jeff Teague (28)
Klay Thompson (26)
Paul George (26)
Tobias Harris (24)
Andre Drummond (23)

Avg: 25.4

2nd tier

Jordan Clarkson (24)
Kenneth Faried (26)
Trevor Booker (28)
Mason Plumlee (26)

Avg: 26

3rd tier

Tyler Ulis (20)
Dante Exum (21)
Montrezl Harrell (22)

Avg: 21

TOTAL Avg: 24.5

I think my team is OK for both short term and long term. My oldest players are at 28 which is the best age in their careers probably. I have guys that can contribute right away (1st and 2nd tier) and also in the future (Harris, Drummond, Clarkson, Ulis, Exum)

Kerrsed- it looks like you and i have the same thought on punting in roto. I do have one exception, if youre in a league where you think some of the players will stop paying attention once they are out of it you can get away with punting a counting stat like steals or blocks. Simply by filling out your lineup you can finish in the middle in that scenario.

Honestly, i look at it as a blessing, as i dont think he will be a productive player for at least 2-3. I would rather have someone on my team helping, then holding on to a guy thats not providing with hopes that someday in 2-3 years he will be productive. Imagine how disappointed you would have been if we started this league 3 years ago and you drafted Archie "Jordan" Goodwin.

I think it's a pretty good pick that late. If we keep 7 or 8 players, I think that having one player who can possibly contribute to all 8 categories but it won't be until year 3 is worth a pick in the 9th round of a 16 team draft. Especially considering Brandon Ingram and Dario Saric went in rounds 4 and 5 respectively. McCaw/Anderson are really the picks that I maybe should have reconsidered. I feel like Durant, Hayward, Bledsoe, Carmelo and Gasol the Younger are my keepers for sure, so there are 2-3 spots up for grabs. Plus I'm not going to be heartbroken dropping guys I gambled on in rounds 9-12 should a waiver-wire gem emerge.

Good fun draft as others have said.

I'm annoyed with myself at a couple of picks - typical stuff where you pondered taking someone at pick X and they'd have likely still been there at pick Y.

Anyway. My squad is definitely leaning towards win-now, but there's plenty of kick left in these old legs. Average age is 26.8 and only my last two picks (Taj and Korver) are over 30. Vets are all either at the start of their prime (DMC, Blake, IT, Reggie) or right in the middle of it (Conley, Thad).

Youngsters won't light the world on fire but they have the potential to be really good in roto (Stanley J, Winslow) or they've got what appears to be a solid path to minutes (KJMcD with the Patrick Beverley injury) and Tyler Johnson.

I think some teams may have gone a little overboard on the youth vs win now thing.

We're keeping 7 guys - so how long are you waiting for those young guys at 5-6-7 to be contributors before The Process repeats itself? :D

Trades should be very interesting - always great fun looking at win now teams, trying to figure out who they will keep and trying to get a bargain. So in that respect, it's a lot like the real NBA.

Good luck all!

You really had to pay attention to how many keepers you most likely had. Once you hit that number it didn't seem wise to draft young guys that could break out in a year or two over vets because then you might end up having to draft a good keeper. I tried to draft mostly relatively young guys but when you miss out on KAT, AD, Greek Freak, Kristaps, etc, you really had to reach. I don't really have any really young guys but I figure I can maybe add one or two a year to replace the guys that get over the hill.

Haha, I noticed that too after I had found what rounds they went. Both will have much greater opportunity this season than Bender will likely have, but I take it you took them more for what their production could be down the line than their production this season. Ben Simmons is another pick that might not be for this season, though when he recovers he'll be much further along than Bender.
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Re: Dynasty Draft Complete

As for my plan, honestly I had no plan. Never done a Dynasty League before, I knew youth would fly off the board. But I figured it would be like taking KAT And Porz over Lebron and Durant. Then I saw basically all youth being prioritized. I missed out on some guys I really wanted early on because I thought they'd be closer to their actual draft position... I was very wrong. So after I picked up Wall and Butler in the 1st and 2nd I went young. I figured both Wall and Butler are still young enough that barring injury they should maintain production for awhile.

Looking at my roster.... ya I'm probably going to be pretty awful. But I think my keepers will be fairly easy. I have 4 that are locks, Wall/Butler/Ingram/Okafor. And then a couple that could breakout and earn it Capela/Saric/Biyombo/Gilchrist. Only guy I'm concerned won't shot much this year, or just enough to make it really hard, is Oubre.

Admittedly, I lost track of the numbers and ended up drafting on talent. Which resulted in a pretty awful Fantasy lineup
