Re: Odd Man Out??? -- 17 Contracts (1 partial), for 15 Spots
There is simply no reason to have both Young and Hunter on the team. They both take turns not doing the same minimal tasks we only need one of them to do. After watching this slug race play out, I see Young as having more potential and it's a real kick in the nards to give up on a mid-1st you just spent two years developing. If I thought Hunter had a chance to be an anybody in this league I'd give him the edge here, but he doesn't.
Also Mickey can kick rocks too but he gets a nod just for being a big.

Bentil's gone now. Maybe the worst defender I've ever seen. That being said, wouldn't be surprised to see him pop back up in the league in 3-5 years as a nice bench stretch 4.

Ditto. Problem is his scoring ability might make him enough money in a place like China that he never bothers to learn anything about playing D.

Bentil annoys me. Why agree to be drafted if you don't want to do the d-league thing. We need two way contracts that don't count against 15-man roster. 15-man roster for NBA plus a maximum of 5 nbadl guys. Those guys count against cap, but they don't count against 15-man. Maybe only allow them to do this for rookie scale contracts.

With Young-Hunter, which one can step in right now if someone gets hurt? Young can shoot. Has Hunter developed enough to be useful with his all around game?
Hunter is better all-around, but young might be a better corner 3 guy.

Anybody find it interesting that Green was getting burn with the scrubs in a blow out game against the Knicks the other night??

Per Petraglia, Green has made the roster. Down to Hunter/Young for the final spot.
I'd lean towards Hunter (extra year of contract term, shows a little more bball talent even if he doesn't have a neat fit as a bench shooter like James) but it's a pretty meaningless big picture decision.

Thought it as a possibility at the time, but he also did miss a week or two due to injury and is on a different conditioning level to the rest of the team. If he was being closely looked at, he made a pretty poor case. Don't think he was based on the information we now know.

Green's a proven scorer in this league. There's absolutely nothing to it. the other two guys, on the other hand, haven't proven squat. Plus he comes at the league minimum salary and we need scoring badly cause we had no one who could put the ball through the rim against the Hawks outside of IT and AB who went down. Green is a way better scorer than the little bit you saw of him this preseason. You'll see. So my guess is that hunter's cut if no trade can be made.

I know we're all in bull market mode about the younger players still, but the 2nd unit could be offensively brutal with a Rozier-Smart-Brown group playing together. Green is valuable insurance for that scenario.

And I'm right there with you. Plus we have KO who can space the floor and score too, once he's back into the flow of things. Our team was just held together by chicken wire by playoff time last year. It really exposed our lack of reliable scorring options once AB and IT went down. Jae was a deadman walking on that ankle and KO couldn't raise his hand to go to the bathroom.

We are past keeping youth for youth's sake. Green will win games this year, immediately. Right now, there back of roster decisions should all be done with the present as the over-riding factor. No more development. It's about what you can offer RIGHT NOW.

Ainge passed on Kay Felder for Bentl smh. It'll be tough watching him in the NBA finals as the Cavs backup PG.
Also passed on Joel Bolomboy as well.

Well he just took Jackson befor Bentil so.... It's too difficult to judge the second rounders, part of me just thinks you take the guy with the one great attribute or the rawest player. Bentil was a sophomore who left school early and who's to say Jackson wouldn't have looked better if he saw the minutes Felder has in the preseason. My only gripe with the team is they took the stash players too early, you could have used the 16th pick on a big with more upside than Bentil like Elleson or somone than used their first second rounder on Zubac or possibly still Yabs. With all the mid to late firsts and early seconds over the past five seasons you would think they would have hit on at least one player by now. You look at teams like Denver, L.A., S.A., they've managed to find some real gems later in the draft(yes, I know Bradley, Al,etc... but how many picks haven't worked out since then?).

No more developement? Which young Ainge drafted player in the past few years has been developed into a decent stater? This team is nowhere near close to as talented as Cleveland, you have to develope some of these kids into assets if you want to land a star to get you there. You have to find a happy medium as this team just got gifted the third pick in the draft, you can't waist that type of oppertunity.
