2016-17 Season Predictions
Edit: I am going to add a poll to the thread for win total predictions. - Fats
It's all about bragging rights. My fearless prediction is that the Hornets win 44 and lose 38. That should be enough to squeak into the playoffs for a second straight year.
The season starts a week from today, so make your prediction before it's too late to play.

Going to look at it some more but I'm somewhat negative on this upcoming season as of right now.

One important factor to keep in mind is that the team belongs to Kemba Walker. If he loses significant time due to injury, the Hornets will struggle, because there is no one of the caliber of Jeremy Lin to run the first unit. Walker was tied with LeBron James for 13th most minutes per game last season at 35.6. With both Sessions and Roberts capable of working with the second unit, it would be prudent to prune some of those minutes back, especially late in games where one team or the other has a large lead.

MKG addition offset by Kemba regression and Lin and Lee deletion. 8th seed.

On October 31, 2009, against the Kings, a bat descended onto the court causing a stoppage of play. As the bat flew past, Ginóbili swatted the bat to the ground with his hand. He then carried the creature off the court, earning the applause of the crowd.

Edit: Late, but I should probably add why. IMHO Hibbert is going to start too many games & there is going to be at least one major injury this year IMHO ... and my gut is that it's going to be Kemba.

My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

If it only takes 5-10 games before Cody is inserted in the starting lineup and we stay relatively healthy I'm going with 45-50 wins. If Roy is the starter for 15-20+ games and we struggle with health I'm going with 39-44 wins.

Re: 2016-17 Season Predictions
I like what I see from Belinelli and Lamb so far, so I am putting my trust in them. I would like to see them get a defensive guard during the season. However if the bench can at least score with the opposing benches, then we should be fine.
If Zeller stays healthy, 49-33.
If Zeller misses a couple months, 41-41.
Hopefully Frank finds his shot and takes his game to the next level. If so, add 4 wins.

So our best case scenario if everyone stays healthy is last year's performance without MKG and with PJ starting for 50 games?

i think overall the east is better than it was last year.

That remains to be seen. CHI, MIL, and NYK could all easily implode, and IND and ORL have very flawed rosters IMO. Jury is out on how ATL will be affected without Teague or Horford and with Dwight.
But assuming we stay healthy, we also are much stronger than last season.
It just feels like we have a natural tendency to bank on other teams' upside and downplay our own.

Re: 2016-17 Season Predictions
Afraid my prediction is 38-44. Between the injuries, lesser quality shooting and lack of bench strength I fear the Hornets slip 10 games from last year and out of the playoffs. Tougher teams in the east also a factor.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

you can say the same about us.
CHA can easily implode if Kemba/MKG/Nic misses significant time, we have a flawed roster (little inside scoring, no real #2 scorer etc.). Jury is still out on how CHA will be affected without Lin.
we have recent history for a reason to be cautious about our season. just a few years ago we all thought Al was amazing when he made All-NBA and we make the playoffs, the next year we all hated him and we sucked. heck look at whats happening to the Panthers.

I don't. Atlanta got worse, Miami got way worse, Detroit is the same but Jackson is out for a while, Toronto will miss Biz, and Cleveland is the same. Washington remains irrelevant, Chicago is a mess. If Milwaukee had a chance, they lost it with Middleton's injury. Of course, Philly and Brooklyn will be at the bottom and nobody has to worry about them.
New York and Orlando improved but aren't threats to be better than us. Indiana and Boston got better, but the fit on Indiana's roster could backfire and it's not tough to envision a situation in which they miss the playoffs.
This offseason, we basically send out Jefferson, Lee, Daniels, and Lin for MKG, Hibbert, Sessions, and Bellinelli. We got better, no two ways about it. Only thing holding this team back from 50+ wins this year is injuries. We had 48 wins and tied for the 3 seed last year playing PJ Hairston for like 50 games. I don't get the negativity.
