Re: Seth Curry to Dallas
Curry Is definitely the backup SG, with Barea being the backup PG.
I don't see it any other way... Harris has lost it a bit and Gibson is 3rd string and basically strictly a shooter.

I am not that optimistic. If we play them together, we've to prepare for the worst perimeter defense in the stretch. As of now, we can only play them against offensively challenged backcourts. There's not much. However, Gibson's not very good defender. So is Harris. Therefore, maybe we're forced to bench Matthews and play one more PG in the starting lineup if things do not go well by openers. Given the tough competition in the West, we can't explore our options too often. That being said, I am rooting for JJB starting at 2 unless Barnes or Matthews somehow succeed in playmaking. We may pair Curry with Harris some. When he's ready, then we may play Gibson with Curry instead. We'll see quite some time Barnes playing PF to open up minutes for Matthews and Anderson. Hopefully, he guards PF better than he did against Aminu's brother in the Nigeria game. In short, DWill is more important than ever. So is Bogut. They'd better stay healthy all season. Or else, we're in deep trouble very soon. I've to wonder how much Powell plays. While I don't think he makes a difference, we have to develop him for bigger role or raising his stocks.

Deron and Curry are the better defenders and Harris is in that class as well. JJB forget about it he's all offense and very little d. I prefer to see Curry develop as the backup PG and let Wes or Simba play alongside him to mask the defense being weak at the guard position. Using JJB means using Wes or Simba at the 2. Curry as a 2 guard is also likely just to see what he can do there. Personally, I want to eventually see Curry and Anderson as the first tandem off the bench at the 1/2.

So far he looks great... Hard to read too much into it though since it's preseason and only the second one at that, but can't deny he has a killer shot and will get his opportunities if he keeps knocking them down

He's looked as good as you would have hoped, but until he gets the minutes and does it in regular season, he is just John Jenkins.

I think Curry and Jenkins are equals but Curry will get a much better chance at meaningful minutes just because he is Seth's brother. #marketingDirk Nowitzki wrote:He's looked as good as you would have hoped, but until he gets the minutes and does it in regular season, he is just John Jenkins.

Re: Seth Curry
its a much bigger gap between those 2 than you realize. Seth turned it on in the regular season last year towards the end of the year and took his game to the top of the league in terms of 3 point shooting, proving beyond any shadow of a doubt that he is a talented shooter deserving of minutes on any team. There is no way a sane team would have let him go but Sac is a dysfunctional team and he did not want to play there so they sort of had no choice. Dallas swooped in when the opportunity presented itself and now we have one of the premier 3 point shooters in the league.
This guy is going to get a lot of minutes at both guard positions He could end up getting more minutes than all other guards because he is so young and will be healthier. Wes will probably stay healthy enough to lead the guards in minutes but Deron is going to miss some games as well Harris. JJB is too much of a risk on defense against most teams. I would not be surprised to see Seth start for us if Deron goes down for any time. If he does and he shows he can handle it then bringing Deron off the bench would be deadly and it would lengthen his career and allow him to stay healthier with fewer minutes.

Re: Seth Curry
He's certainly improved in the last couple of years and can play passable D. But... He's going to be streaky and when the shots not falling, he offers nothing of significance. He can't play PG and he's undersized at the 2, but he's in the right place with Carlisle with his small guard heavy line ups.
If he's sticking in the NBA, it will be here. But I really think we will find he's still not consistent or versatile enough for serious minutes.

Carlisle doesn't give a solitary fuxk about names, brands or marketing.
If he sucks, he will be in the doghouse

We will see if that is true or not if Harrison Barnes is still starting ten games into the season and not buried on the bench.
Carlisle doesn't care about marketing but Cubes does. We shall see soon who calls the shots on players minutes this season.

If that were the case we would have kept Cousins instead of DFS.

I don't think you can realistically expect a coach to bench a $94 million man 10 games into his new team career. It just doesn't sound like the best thing to do. I'm not sure if you really honestly want that. I am of course assuming that Barnes will shoot infinitely better than pre-season.
I think Curry will end up playing a meaningful role, we saw how slow this team is, even if it was just pre-season. Curry looks like he is dynamic enough to make some things happen, we will probably end up seeing the midget backcourt gimmick to spark an otherwise stagnant offense.

Cuban is not Jerry Jones. He will always defer to Carlisle for on court issues.

Re: Seth Curry to Dallas
If Barnes starts the season shooting 20%ish from the field and Mavs start out 2-8 then I honestly want Barnes benched and Anderson to be given starting SF duties.Dirk Nowitzki wrote:2011Champs wrote:jpengland wrote: Carlisle doesn't give a solitary fuxk about names, brands or marketing.

If Barnes turns around his game 180 degrees from last postseason and this preseason then this won't even be a valid conversation anyway.

Re: Seth Curry
If Barnes is shooting 20% he should go to the bench....if nothing else to relieve some pressure and clear his head.

The guy has actually had meaningful minutes, but has been so underwhelming. Just looks very insecure, has passed up open shots, hasn't hit the ones he takes... he better start making some plays before Harris returns.

If Dirk has the one-leg fadeaway, Hakeem has the Dream Shake and Shaq has the Black Tornado, Seth Curry has the Pump Fakes of Doom.
