I think the consolidation aspect was part of the plan but also the overall flexibility for deal-making was a focus as well. Obviously roster-wise it created less flexibility, but the ability to make trades (see Bogans' deal, TPE generation, David Lee trade, Amir/Jerebko/Zeller deals etc) was just as big. As well as improving their asset base, the other issue at hand was having the actual mechanisms to execute deals and that may be a bit overlooked here.

IMO they are less concerned with losing a bit of value at the back of the roster or some small trade compared to not having the ability to execute a big deal if available.

What are you criticizing here? That we didn't combine the 50th pick and RJ Hunter into an unprotected first or Jimmy Butler?

I respect your opinion but I do not agree with it.
I like Jackson but imho he is replecable in our team. He was not better than RJ or Young in any of the preseason games (imho).
I would like Young to be cut but he had nice preseason and finally showed some improvement. I really like RJ cause he is an inteligent player with nice vision and team playing abilities. Jackson is ok but Rozier, Smart and IT are so much better than he is (imho).

Waive 'em both and sign Yi JianLan if he clears waivers. Yi has reportedly asked out and will be waived by the Lakers.

If the rumor that the celts are seeking a 2nd rounder for both young and hunter is true then it appears that its a dead heat and more of less a coin toss as to who they keep. Young has clearly improved and he has a size advantage over hunter but hunter has a higher bball IQ and can do some other things besides shoot so I'd give him the edge. I'd like to keep both but if danny has to cut one I think its' going to be James YOung.

To be more specific is Jackson is ultimately more versitale on offense which is where the NBA is headed. he can create for others and shoot. He can initiate the offense. Ultimately, they're all going to have to be paid if there is a cut to be made. So If DA is going to pay someone to leave or pay someone to stay, ultimately that lets you know who the organization values more. It' just logical. They never threw Jackson in the mix of players on the chopping block cause Jackson only has 1.1 mil guaranteed this year. That's that same as the other two essentially minus some change.

how about this. Trade both Young/Hunter to a team that's willing to absorb them in exchange for a heavily protected 2nd that we'll never see....then we sign Nader and have him play in Boston. Done and done. Won't happen but why not

What I actually did was mention that all those incremental value adds that AInge got so much credit for being a genius for making are now becoming a series of incremental value subtractions due to our inability to consolidate them.

That this was the plan was stated explicitly many, many times by the team's brass, for which there were many, many discussions on this board.

You can't possibly think the plan was to draft guys and never play them before cutting them, while being forced into making multiple draft and stash picks in the 1st round.

Hardly the world's biggest criticism to point out that this is happening.

What did we have last year, like 8 picks? that's insane. Worst case scenario is you could have collusion where other teams refuse to deal with DA cause he's fleeced a lot of guys. I dont think that to be the case at all. However I'm surprised the league hasn't colluded against GS and Cleveland yet considering any kind of small trade could give them the right amount of cap flexibility to make a marginal yet important improvement to their team, making them even harder to deal with. It's really hard to prove but wink-winks are doable. Why bail a team out of their own mistakes?

Not surprised at all considering James entered every game before/at the same time as RJ. Interested to see if we can get a 2nd for RJ.

Would much rather have RJ over Young. But whatever.

Only way a team trades for RJ now is if they're scared that he'll get scooped up on waivers. I'm guessing the Sixers roll the dice on him, since Bryan Colangelo worships the ground that Danny Ainge walks on.

Why would a team give up a 2nd rounder when they can just sign him for only $ later. RJ is a fine end of the bench player with potential but not the type you would give up any asset for, as little as it may be. Who knows, he may even end up in Maine, although I doubt it.
