Waiving Hunter. No one would give a 2nd for him.

Wow hunter gone huh. So him weighing 100 pounds soaking wet must bother the coaching staff as well. If you cant hit open 3s you have no place on an nba roster. About how i thought this would end up.

Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY RJ HUNTER!!! Good luck in the future, and make sure to take some extra jerseys and shorts as part of your birthday gift. Lol

I always expected James Young to make the team over RJ Hunter. The reason being, his ceiling and all around game is much higher than RJ Hunter.. He just needs to put it into action.

Obvious cut. Hunter just doesn't have the body to be more than a backup/situational sub. So risk of cutting him is minimal.

Young has potential to be a starter down the line. Far more risk in cutting Young.

Coin flip. Once again I would have waived both of them and tried to add a veteran big, e.g. Yi or the Steamer. The Thunder might also cut Mitch McGary.

I really don't understand this premise, especially with Hunter. Hunter was the 28th pick in the draft and was simply buried on the bench behind depth. He has talent. He is under team control for a few years if they so choose. He is absolutely worth a decent pick...I would rather see Ainge do a 2 or 3 for 1 type deal for an established player, but whatever

Looks like I was right regarding the 2nd round pick lol.

I agree with this move, both are trash but Young is two years younger and showed a bit of a higher ceiling (although less consistently). Young won't be here next season.

Not happy about this decision at all, but it is what it is. Here's hoping that Young has a better career than Hunter and, more importantly, that the lazy-ass that we decided to keep starts caring about basketball/Celtics as much as he cares for his hair.

This didn't come as a surprise to me at all. Young just brings more to
the table than RJ if he fully develops as a player. I.e. Shooting, size to guard multiple positions, better defender etc.

I think Hunter gets claimed off waivers. He just didn't shoot it well enough.

*sigh*

Bad omen on the eve of what could be a great season.

Hunter isn't a great player but he's infinitely more ready than Young to play a role on a team that's trying to win.

I'm guessing that the two year age difference was a significant factor.

Also, Hunter was SO bad defensively. Can't keep anyone in front of him, clueless on the pick and roll.

That's what I don't get about Hunter. His father is a coach so you'd think he would have learned how to defend a pick and roll.

Can't say I am said to see him go, but players like Hunter are a dime a dozen on the free agent wire.

I bet they kept the bigger salary as it helps make trades later in the year. Young helps fit a little more salary coming back than Hunter.

Especially so if they don't pick up his option for next year.

Neither player has a very high ceiling, and we all know that.

It re occured to me last night that Young is signed to roc nation, and durant is still a free agent next summer, so if things implode in golden state Ainge wants to be in contact with the same agency through one of their clients. But that didn't do **** this summer so it's probably a moot point but liked to point that out.

Feel really sorry for RJ..I think he will still become a really good NBA player. It's a shame that we had to give up on him without even giving him a chance to enter the court on his second year. So many players show nothing their first season or two and become solid players after years 3 or 4 and we didn't even get a chance to see him through that far down. I still hate this cut and I feel very highly thhat Jackson should have been the last cut instead. A player that we simply don't need to have on the roster. I'm not happy with the cut but this is where we have to trust Ainge and Stevens.

Bentil found a home already and I have no doubt in my mind RJ will find one soon. Dude won't even clear waivers..hopefully he doesn't fall to a team like the Knicks or Brooklyn though. I want to be able to cheer for his success in the league.
