This is interesting. So Bentil could still end up in Maine? Or does Ryan Kelly already have that spot? Confused.

One man gathers what another man spills...

As a Sixer fan I would gladly take a shot with Hunter. Hoping that we claim him. :D

I was optimistic on Hunter eventually playing a part in the rotation last year, but remember pumping the breaks internally when I saw how bad he looked in the D league as a 22 year old. Didn't seem to put the effort into his body or game. Can say similar for Young until this season, but the younger kid gets more leeway.

I think it's the right call, though very curious to see if they pick up Young's 4th year this week.

From what I gather, the Indiana Pacers have his NBA Rights, and Boston (Celtics) have his D-League Rights.

This was the right move. For the first time since he was drafted Young has improved his game & has continued to add weight from when he was drafted. Hunter did neither of those two things & his only NBA skill is his shooting, which hasn't translated to the pros. To make up for his lack of athleticism/defense Hunter needed to be a knockdown shooter to stick around & that didn't happen.

I was wondering which team was being referred to with "team who waived him still gets 1st right if he signs with NBADL." Is it Boston or Indy? Pacers will likely waive him too.

Yeah. IDK what the Pacers are thinking.
Celtics, should own his D-League Rights. As we do have a D-League. = Hence, We Did Not Forfeit his D-League Rights.

I'm going to be sick to my stomach if the Nets claim RJ Hunter and he helps them pick up a few extra wins. Let's go Sixers!!

I think Hunter, as a cheaper option, is a guy that might be picked up by a team with cap space that needs a shooter. I am sure he will generate interest and be on an nba roster.

James Young, last chance.

cutting 1st rd pix sux and it doesnt not sux. seems like an obvious criticism. better than most criticisms i see round here re: kelly's hair

Of course it sucks but what's the criticism, the accumulation strategy or the actual scouting/selection process?

They were able to cut a former first round bust because they had accumulated a pick to take Jackson who they preferred based on his 2 year deal.

It could be said just as well we don't actually want more draft picks and they should just be given away to solve the trouble?

It's like the Rule V draft in MLB.

Hunter might be a nice fit with the Milwaukee Bucks. In any case, best of luck to him. Seems like a good kid that was in a tough situation.

I don't think playing RJ Hunter is likely to give a team MORE wins, likely the opposite. He's still a turnstile on D who can't rebound. I like his potential for a few years from now, but right now any team playing him real minutes is going to be awful.

Surprised. I thought Hunter would have been more useful in spot minutes.

Exactly.

Unless the Pacers are keeping him, in the NBA, then the Maine Red Claws have his D-League Rights, NOT the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (run by the Pacers).

I'm going to open this up into a Separate Thread:

Celtics Keep the D-League Rights of Ben Bentil & Ryan Kelly

Glad James made it. His physical profile along with age and skillset is still promising. Everyone here knew that he was a raw young prospect (the two years away from being ready type) when we picked him but he still got judged like he had to have an impact right away. I'll stay positive with James until his rookie deal ends, if he hasn't cracked the rotation by then good luck elsewhere.

So.. the 28th pick is not having a good run.
2015- Hunter- waived- 35 GP- 1 year
2014- Wilcox- traded for distant future second- 44 Gp in 2 years
2013- Jean-Charles- Waived- no games played
2012- Jones- traded WITH a pick for cash, then waived-12 GP in 4 years
