That doesn't make sense. If anything, claiming a guy like Goodwin off waivers would be getting worse this season but hoping they payoff later.

I fail to see how dumping your sunk costs in Sauce and Hollis and replacing them with some young talents would screw up the tank.

Does this mean they are... gulp... going to pick up Sauce's fourth year option? Now that I think about it, that's f*****g Brett for you. Have to hold on to the Brandon Davies types at all costs because they "work hard". I'm done with Brett. Good news is that he's probably gone after this year.

There are no long term implications with any of these 10th man at best types.

But I do consider it kind of stupid to be resistant of the idea in general when the talent level is where it is.

There are guys out there right now better then current players on our roster. By not being interested in bringing in anybody for fear of having to cut someone on the roster already screams tank. I know theres nobody out there that add many wins to the roster but possibly more enjoyable basketball this season and potentially higher ceilings going forward.

I haven't seen a cut that is better than Hollis.

25 mins a night of complete dog crap is what I think of HT. Shoots 39% from 3 but has never hit a shot thats mattered for us. I would take almost anyone over HT. I would have 0 problem changing out a main stay of the 3 worst years of basketball ever for Goodwin.

I have no problem making that switch for upside or excitement, but Goodwin isn't better now.

I see this narrative all the time and I'm not really buying it unless someone can show me a stat that actually proves it. He's an above average shooter - one of the few on the team. Losing him would destroy whatever spacing we have. The team scored +5.3 points per 100 possessions when he was on the court. He was only -2.6 points/100 on defense so he was still a positive relative to his teammates. I imagine several other teams would be fine with him as a deep bench wing that occasionally enters the rotation.

Your last sentence sums it up. This board has an irrational hate for him and uses him as a scapegoat because he has been a main stay of 3 years of dreadful basketball. While he isn't great and doesn't have upside, he has a role and he's decent at it.

I'm sure claiming RJ Hunter and Archie Goodwin would have made us play off contenders.

More upside talent. Hollis is what he is. Sauce is better served playing over in Europe.

This team might not make the playoffs if you added Kevin Durant, so that's not a fair comparison point. The difference is simply in the perception. One way, scrubs with no hope; the other way, young guys learning to play together. This is tilting heavily toward the former with all the injuries, and dumping a couple of "scrubs" for guys with upside would tilt it back the other way.

I don't think the hate is completely irrational. He is a 14/15th man in the league who only provides some shooting. An Anthony Morrow. Not very good, and not someone you really want seeing the floor except in garbage time.

it's remarkable how similiar things have gone since the switch at GM. Nothing has changed.

Oddly enough, I believe Hinkie would have made more moves than Colangelo has.

To be fair, nothing has really happened since the change over other than the draft picks, and the non moves.

The free agent signings of Henderson, Bayless, and Rodriguez may or may not have been done by Hinkie. We don't know if Hinkie would have drafted Luwawu and Korkmaz, or signed those free agents, but they aren't out of step with what he would have done, at least in general.

What I mean is that BC hasn't really done anything to indicate a direction at all other than the signing of the middling free agents which Hinkie would have done some sort of similar thing at this stage of the rebuild.

in all likelihood any of these potential waiver claims would have been a lateral move at worst and payoff in 2-3 years at best. I guess they figure better the devil you know than the one you don't. I dunno. This team has no chemistry so it can't be about that. I really just want fresh faces to scream at - I'm tired of looking at Hollis and Stauskas (even though it's only been a year).

Exactly. My rant might have come off as an overreaction to not signing Goodwin, but that situation is just coinciding with the end of a "default" offseason after completely changing management of the team. I'm pissed that we are supposed to now have this "competent" GM who has all these great relations and will be bringing all these win now players, and we're trotting out this lineup. Remove all Hinkie acquired assets and what would you say about these players? Simmons was his best pick up and that wasn't even through his connections, it was from tanking.

Obviously I don't know what goes on behind closed doors, but I do believe Hinkie would have traded Noel for another player in the draft, possibly for Dunn given how far he fell in the draft.
