Seems like Embiid didn't get many blocks, only 0.7, even with limited minutes in summer league a big athletic center usually racks up a couple, why doesn't he get more blocks, slow feet?

small sample size.. also wasn't in the flow of many games due to minute restriction allocation. Should go up for sure once he is more acclimated.

As was mentioned - it's a small sample size - but it was 0.9 bpg. 4.6 block%. Ranked 36th in block% and 34th in blocks per minute - without qualifiers.

All that is fair. I agree with it. Embiid isn't like Shaq. Shaq was one of a kind. Embiid has a greater skillset than Shaq.
Ok this is getting ridiculous. You realize that skill is more than shooting range ? Rookie's Shaq skillset, from his passing, ball handling, quickness, dribbling or versatility is leagues ahead of Embiid skillset.
By skillset I'm talking versatility on offense and defense. Embiid appears to have better footwork on D to go out on perimeter than Shaq had. On offense Shaq just overpowered people. If he were 6'9 he wouldn't be as dominant. He couldn't shoot outside of 3 feet. He didn't have to because he could dunk on you. I'm not taking anything away from him because I loved Shaq. He just had a basic offensive skill. It was a great skill because nobody could stop it. He was too big and physical. Embiid has range. He's only played 3 years of ball in his life. He has a lot of room to grow to become a good passer and other skills.

Shaq was MUCH quicker than Embiid at the same age, much, much more agile.
Rookie Shaq

Offensively young Shaq was quick. I still think Embiid can guard the perimeter better than any version of Shaq. Quick Shaq was a terror on the offensive end though.

Shaq imo had his best defensive seasons by far as a young player. He got really lazy in Lakers.

meanwhile, Saric probably not the best guy to hit in the face with an elbow. (even inadvertent.)

While I agree it's foolish to say he can be Hakeem or better, I definitely see the skillset of a guy like Olajuwon in his game.
What I don't understand is the comparisons to Shaq. At all. Does he look decently strong and able to muscle his way down low a little bit? Sure. But that's not anywhere near what Shaq was. From the moment Shaq came in the league he would literally bully his way to the hoop and threw it down regularly. He was a freak of nature.
I'm trying not to say this in a combative way, as I think the guy can be an absolute animal overall, I just don't get where the Shaq comparisons come from. Even in the highlight reel from the preseason on the previous page, there was nothing (and these are highlights) that made me say wow, this guy can be the same explosive, bully in the post dunk machine that Shaq was. What is it you guys are seeing that makes you think that? And I'm asking everyone, as I've seen non-Philly fans say it too, so I'm just trying to get a better idea of what the comparison entails.
Shaq is a bad comparison for Embiid. Shaq, as you stated, was overwhelming physically. Beyond anything that Embiid has shown. Of course most of Shaq's career he was out of shape, and too heavy, but he was still more dominant inside than Embiid will ever be.
However, Embiid is still going to be the most physically dominating player in the league today. As silly as it sounds, he is more Hakeem like than anyone else that I can think of. He is longer and stronger than Hakeem, but not as quick or explosive as he was.
He has the comprehensive skill package on offense and defense, and he just has a natural gift/feel on both offense and defense.

Re: So How about Joel Embiid
Let me get this straight, a guy that hasn't even played a second of NBA basketball, people are saying he has a greater skillset than Shaq and has the potential to be the best center of all time.
This is like people watching Ben Simmons in SL and saying he's a better passer than Lebron or Magic.

I mean that's the thing about potential....not everyone lives up to theirs.
also why are people policing how excited Sixers fans are allowed to be about their prospects. Quit raining on the parades of people.
especially since yours is based off of your Duke agenda

My post had nothing to do with Duke or even a Duke player. As 6ers fans you can get as excited about a prospect as you'd like. But this is the General Board, so you can't get upset that other fans thinks it's funny when people claim their prospects as already being a better passer than Magic or Lebron, or their center to having potential to be the greatest of all time and already having a better skillset than Shaq, even though both have yet to play a minute of NBA basketball.

Duke and Warriors fan. Pretty likely he's only casually watched basketball for 3 years tops. I recall seeing him talking down Simmons in every Simmons thread that came around as well. Casual fans are the ones that hate tanking the most so not surprising he finds his way into any thread discussing the players Philly acquired by tanking.
Fans get excited about their young talents. Especially ones with elite skillsets. That's what fans do. I personally hate comparing players to other players, especially all time greats, but that doesn't change the fact that Embiid is an elite talent.

Yes by talking down Simmons you mean how I've stated over and over again I think he's going to make multiple all star teams? I've been called a Simmons hater because I don't think he's going to be the next Lebron or a top 5 player. I think he's going to be a really good all star caliber player. I've said that multiple times and I've been called a Simmons hater haha.
