Beno can run an offense better than either mccallum or brown so it's a good thing we have him to back up ish for the first 15-20 games.

i watched some preseason tape on beno after we got him. he is decently skilled, is a smart player (like you'd expect from a vet) but is far from what you'd call athletic. he has decent quickness off the dribble and should be better at penetrating than blake was but udrih will struggle defensively. i don't know if he has short legs or something but he barely covers any ground with his slides or steps when recovering.

glad they made this move, it would've been ugly seeing RayMac play regular backup minutes.

Also not a huge fan of this move...but not hating it either

The fact is RJ gonna miss 4-6 weeks and we needed a better option behind Ish for that time. Beno is as good as we're likely to get so it is what it is.

At least we know he can run PnR though and our system is all about that...

I just wish we were willing to diversify our offensive sets more

Basically, SVG seemed to feel that he wanted a more experienced backup PG while RJ recovers. It was kind of telling when neither Ray or Lorenzo put themselves ahead. One of the reasons that Ray beat Lorenzo (for like a day) was the larger amount of NBA experience.

All 3 guys contracts were about the same, Beno has 12 years experience.

Also hes not Steve Blake 2.0. Just wanted to say that.

Also, that is Douche haircut

one must be pretty excitable to get a chubby from a third-string PG signing.

Ya'll hating that haircut and here I am with a similar one. Albeit mines longer on top.

But from what I've heard from his previous tenure from other team's fans, he knows how to run a system and has a wet midrange. That's about the best we could probably do in our current cap situation.

I am not against Beno, but people should have to wonder why he keeps getting cut the past few seasons. I wasn't that impressed with his play a few years ago in Orlando. Has he gotten better since then? Anyways, he is a solid pass first PG who is not a good scorer or defender.

My hunch is that he's a better PG than Ish. And no, that prospect doesn't give me a chubby.

It's a stopgap move that shouldn't have anyone wildly excited. (Chubbies aside) That doesn't mean it wasn't the right move. If you have two solid PGs, keeping a young, developmental player ahead of a player like Beno makes sense. Pistons aren't in that situation.

All the guys who 'hated the move' and spouted out 'Blake 2.0' because they had never actually watched Beno play basketball before feeling pretty silly tonight.

Actually, I had seen Beno play before. I hated the move, but through 2 games he has proven me wrong. Let's see another month or two of games before we serve up crow though, shall we?

He's our 3rd string pg (which is part of the point). We won't be seeing him much at all after a few weeks.

I'm inclined to agree. He doesn't set the world on fire, but he knows what he's about. One thing that has struck me is how both Ish and Beno pressure the basket with the ball. When Reggie takes it that deep he's often looking for his shot. Both these guys so far seem mostly content to stir the pot and see what surfaces. They're both playing good team basketball.
