John Wall replied in a video posted online Friday to apparent critics who have voiced concerns over how he is "watching other people's pockets and I'm not worried about basketball and getting better."

Wall was reportedly irked in particular by Bradley Beal's new deal.

"I just wanted to clear the air for all these people," Wall said in a video published to the Twitter feed of the LeBron James media platform "The Uninterrupted."

"Listen, that doesn't matter to me," Wall said. "If I produce like I'm supposed to on the basketball court and take care of myself and image, I'm going to be fine with making money. That's not why I play the game of basketball."

Wall's comments follow interviews he and Beal had this week.

Beal signed a five-year, $128 million max contract this offseason with Wall in the middle of an $80 million deal that runs through the 2018 season.

"Me, talking about Bradley Beal [making] more money, I'm not mad. I'm happy. He's my teammate," Wall said Friday. "He came out at the right time when the contract money came up. I can't control that."

He sounds totally sincere and straightforward. I think he's been slammed over this. He has too much understanding of how the world works to waste his time being jealous of Beal and/or Harden. Would he rather make that kind of money too? Duh -- of course he would! But, so would anyone. Has nothing to do with anything.

Ric Bucher takes the air out of this Beal vs. Wall controversy. As he says, and I agree, the best--and healthy way--to deal with grievances is to put them on the table, to talk about them.

The only thing I think John ever legitimately got pissed about in a real way was the Harden shoe deal. Not his NBA contract. I'm sure deep down he doesn't think Brad is worth what he got but he's willing to see if he can live up to it. If the Wiz are mediocre again and Brad is same ol' same ol then I think John's impatience with the situation will lead to the rift being too big between the two of them.

The media is the reason

Back when wall got his 1st Max contract every outlet was talking about him being a max contract worthy player...I remember even in 2k the in-game annoucers would even talk about it...

In John minds he probably feel like why aren't these other guys getting scrutinized the way he did when he received his mix contract

I'm not sure I'd enjoy playing alongside Beal either. Watching a gunshy shooter pass legitimate scoring opportunities has to be frustrating for a natural distributor like Wall.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

The most noteworthy thing here is Wall's latent implication that he intends to re-sign in DC when his contract is up.

Bottom line - when a team and player aren't performing up to expectations - any and every problem or potential issue will be blown way out of proportion by the media and folks on the internet. They probably get along better than Durant and Westbrook did... oops. I do think - all things being equal, Wall wants to stay in DC, but management likely has to give him a reason to stay - by putting together a supporting cast capable of winning at least an Eastern Con Championship.

Great vid Fish, I only hope in the next couple seasons Ernie or whoever is running the show (Hopefully Hinkie) puts together some pieces around these 2 or Scotty really develops Oubre. I lost hope in Otto already and Sato we'll have to see but it really feels like Wall wants to stay but when last season ended it just felt like he was biding time until he can sign elsewhere.
