GT: Spurs vs. Kings

Post#1 » by Nolan » Thu Oct 27, 2016 1:25 pm

When: 8:30 PM MT Oct 27th 2016
Where: Golden 1 Center, Sacramento CA

Time for game two!! The Kings might not be the Warriors but this doesn't mean this is going to be an easy win for us. This will be the first game in the brand new Golden 1 Center so the Kings are going to try and put on a show for the fans!

Containing Cousins should be our first priority. He's so so skilled in the low block and he's dominated us in the past so Gasol, LMA and Dedmon all have to bring their A games on the defensive end. We need to make life difficult for him and keep him and the Kings other big guys off the glass.

The bench battle is also going to be important in this one. The Kings upgraded their bench a bit over the summer (Barnes, Tolliver, Temple) and they looked pretty good against the Suns last night. So Simmons, Patty and Manu have to bring their A games once again!

Go Spurs!!

I'll be most interested to see what Pop does with Cousins-- try to defend him straight-up, or let him get his and win by containing the rest of the team?

It would be nice for Pau to show us something defensively here, but I won't be surprised to see Dedmon get a fair amount of burn on Boogie.

Let's get it, Spurs!

I'm hoping to see lots of Dedmon tonight. We should be able to send a lot of help Boogies way as well, the Kings perimeter players really don't scare me that much.

This should be an interesting game for both teams with our starting bigs.

I think we may be one of the few teams that could bully you guys some on the inside with Kosta and Cousins.

So far our transition defense looks majorly improved, and we're more competent at the SG than before.

Nolan you mentioned no one on the perimeter worries you, he seems to be streaky, but Tolliver is the guy you don't want getting hot.

I can tell Dedmon is going to be that guy we all pick up in our fantasy leagues trying to get blocks on the last day of our matchups.

Maybe even more than that. Could he be in line for big minutes as the season progresses?

Gasol looks awful, although the depth looks fantastic

Could be deepest roster in league. Night & day compared to Warriors roster.

I think we definitely need an athletic big center to play defense. Wouldn't mind a 2014 version of Splitter for example.
TP is playing horrible, maybe his playing time needs to go down.

Green and Kyle Anderson on the trading block.

I think it's time to get a new PG next season, bring him off the bench, really has effect our play at times

We're gonna have a tough time playing big teams this season too

What happens to Gasol? He looks underutilized on offense.

Two straight games of both Parker and Gasol at -13 plus minus.

Kawhi godlike right now.

Anderson looking out of his depth and yet again hurting the team because he simply isn't a threat (and doesn't even try to pretend he is) on offense.

Dedmon a nice surprise too, hustle and energy we haven't had in his position for a while.

dedmon has been way better than i expected

anderson still looks lost, and he is just too slow

gasol was always going to get abused by cousins so -13 is no surprise

parker just ignoring pop's direction from the bench, think it might be time to start mills soon

would love to see bertans get some minutes but you cant give him any against the warriors even in a blowout, and the kings game was too close all game to put him in... but it will happen

The Kings came out gunning in their first game in the new building and we came out flat. But in the end this was a decent grind it out win for us and the bench really carried us.

The positives:
Kawhi - This dude is unstoppable. He scored at will tonight and he single handedly blew this game open in third when he just started taking the ball from McLemore. I was also impressed with his passing too, he made some nice plays.

Dewayne Dedmon - He was exactly what we needed last night. Finished everything around the rim, played great defense both on Boogie and away from the ball, rebounded well (he had a couple great offense boards in the 4th) and he had some great blocks. If he keeps this up he might force Pop to start him over Gasol.

The bench - Simmons wasn't all that great tonight but Lee was excellent around the rim and Manu and Patty did they're jobs as well.

The negatives:
Gasol - It looks like he isn't even trying out there. He's not only slow but just not moving his feet and the effort definitely isn't there either. I don't what his deal is.

Parker - Started slow and tried to force the issue way too much. When he free lanced everyone else got lost and the movement away from the ball stopped which just made things worse. He would of been better off easing off the gas and letting the ball move rather than trying to make things happen on his own.

I think we should consider starting Dedmon when we go up against bigger teams. Dedmon needs to play all of his minutes against the other teams best bigs.

Although that'll create defensive problems for our bench unit, the thought of a Lee Gasol front court hurts my head.

He keeps playing like this I can see his minutes increasing. He's exactly what we need in the middle.
