1. Lebron
2. Lillard/Kawaii
3. Westbrook (dont think their team is going to be good enough)
4. PG/Harden
5. Towns
6. CP3 (Blake great season might offset)
7. Curry/KD (going to be hard to give one of them the mvp with the supporting cast they have. They can get to the WCF without either of them)

Top candidates are all in the West this year IMO. Westbrook is at the top of my list so far. 3-0 with two insane triple doubles already. Lillard and Leonard are my 2 and 3 respectively.

It's pretty big to be on a top team in the regular season in your conference when it comes to MVP. So my list as of now would be

1 Kawhi
2 Lebron
3 Westbrook

I dont really see a scenario where Lillard wins it, unless Portland finishes 1st in the West, which isnt happening.

Right now it's between Westbrook and kawhi as very early contenders . Lebron is 3rd.

Right now it's a two man race between Westbrook and Kawhi. Having said that I don't expect the Thunder to win enough games(55 wins or so) for Russ to win, then again they might.

Lebron is the best player in the league but we don't know how hard he is going to push himself in the regular season. He may coast until the playoffs. Put it this way if Lebron really want to win it, he will.

Kawhi is going to be a top candidate, it would be no surprise at all to see him win it. In fact he maybe the favorite right now. We know the Spurs are going to win a boatload of games and it look like Kawhi is going to have huge numbers. Also by the end of the year Durant and Curry is going to be in the mix as well regardless what people have to say about GSW.

I'm expecting the Clippers to have a great year as well so that mean Griffin/Paul will have to be in the mix.

So like usual by the end of the year I expect there to be 5 or so really strong candidates for the award.

While I don't think that Lillard should be considered a frontrunner by any means... I will reserve to wait a bit and see if his improvement is for real, or just early season fresh legs.

Lillard has gotten hot for long periods of time before and looked like a Top 7-8 player in the league for a month or so at a time, but he always inevitably cools down. THE MAJOR difference so far this year has been his interior scoring. I have never seen Lillard score the ball like this before. Right now Lillard is averaging 35 ppg shooting the lowest amount of 3 pointers in his career.

While it's obvious that his stats will not maintain how ridiculous they are right now, it should be noted that he's finishing around the rim EXTREMELY well early in the season, and he really hasn't had one of those high volume 3pt barrages yet, or a game where he is just shooting the ball ridiculously and looking like Curry from range. If his finishing has indeed gotten to that elite level, then he is primed for a few games this year that will be mindboggling.

I'm definitely going to agree with your top 3, but as a Blazer fan I do have my eyes on Lillard... he has definitely looked different this year, so far.

He has a really good chance of finishing 4th or 5th, maybe even 3rd, but he's not going to win it, or really ever be in serious consideration to win it.

Might have a small chance of making the allstar game though

LeBron will likely fade fast. First couple games he was engaged, but in the most recent he reverted back to 'chill mode' from last year.

Durant, Kawhi and LeBron, basically.

Altough Westbrook will put the best numbers, but he won't have enough wins.

Leonard and the spurs look fantastic. He should be the (extremely early) front runner right now. Lebron is good but the Raptors' game showed that he's clearly going to coast some games. While his coasting numbers are still decent by normal standards, he's not going to match Leonard or Westbrook's stats

No mention of Derozan here? If Westbrook is gonna get all this burn for 3 games against the league's worst teams, why not Demar for averaging 35 and leading the league's best SRS team?

It will probably go to either Kawhi, LeBron or Westbrook depending on who has the better record (or in Westbrooks case, if they win 50+ games).

I think people are ignoring the fact that the 3 teams the thunder have played so far are the sixers, suns and lakers. And two of those three games have been very close. It really doesn't matter if he puts up 40/12/12, if they're a 40 win team he's not getting the award and with their performance so far that's the track they seem to be on. Maybe it's just early adjustment and with time they'll get a lot better but right now I'm really not seeing a 50+ win team there...

Clearly Westbrook or Harden. They have the keys to the team. Whichever team is better I think that player will win. Also Dont sleep on Kahwhi if he continues like this.
