2017 Draft Thread

Post#1 » by HitmanCapone » Wed Nov 2, 2016 7:40 pm

Okay after looking back a few pages I couldn't seem to find a thread so if there is already one feel free to lock this up.

With that out of the way I know it's still very early the season just started and it's only November 2nd but drafts in general just really intrigue myself. So who are some players everyone likes? For myself I think we need help at the 2(SG) & 3(SF) position(another wing) as well as a 3/4(PF) someone who's big enough that they could play small ball 4 which leads me directly to my 3 favorite players for us, atleast in my opinion.

#1 - Jayson Tatum (SF) Duke
#2 - Jonathan Isaac (SF) Florida St
#3 - Ivan Rabb (PF) California

To land any of those 3 players though I believe we'll either need to trade up or miss the playoffs. My top 3 guys outside of the lottery are:

#1 - Ray Smith (SF) Arizona
#2 - Grayson Allen (SG) Duke
#3 - Terrance Ferguson (SG) Australia

Now obviously this could all change as the season goes on but for now these are my guys I'm targeting for us. What other guys do you like?

I was thinking we wouldn't have a draft pick this year, but that comes in 2018.

I know next to nothing about this draft class. But at a quick glance, OG Anunoby stands out as someone Thibs might like

What about OG Anunoby - SF - Indiana? His name alone warrants the pick :)

Pros:
Anunoby has rare physical attributes including a reported 7-6 wingspan to go along with really good strength. He's got good quickness and is a powerful, rock solid athlete.

His calling card is his defense, where he has the ability to harass dribblers on the perimeter and guard in the post as well. His versatility is a big plus but what sets him apart is his commitment to guarding every time down the floor. He plays with energy and hustle and wears opponents down over the course of a game.

LOL I swear I did read it but apparently it didn't stick. Was just reviewing some film/highlights and loved what I seen from OG

Big fan of Fultz, Giles(injuries are very very scary with him though), Tatum, Smith and Bolden. Not a big fan of Jackson(he will be 20 as a freshman) or Isaac(think his actual skills are lacking).

Prospects potentially in our range that I like. Anunonby(already mentioned), Jeane(project, but good potential), Markkanen, Yurtseven, Jarrett Allen, Grayson Allen, then Nigel Hayes.

Aren't those two of the top prospects? I'd be shocked if we're in position to be picking that high.

Bolden is top 10, but no he isn't one of the top prospects. Bridges is late first round guy.

That is more of a statement to how strong this draft could be.

Personally I think Bolden is more middle of the pack somewhere in that 10-20 range but it's way too early to say for sure where he'll end up. However if you're looking for that C/PF what do you think about Thomas Bryant?

PF Cameron Oliver the likely top prize there. Explosive! A Musselman-coached team.

Lonzo Ball, Mile Bridges, Thomas Bryant, and OG all played well today on quick glance. I think Bridges will end up being pick in the middle first round. Also looks like Josh Jackson struggled a little, but he was going up against OG.

Bryant is skilled, but I don't think he has the quickness or the athleticism to be either a good PnR defender or a rim protector in the NBA. Moreover, I don't his post moves are going to work all that well at the NBA level.

I'd easily take OG over him. He will be a much better defender at the NBA level and can basically play 3-5 and guard every position. Plus, he would bring some much needed toughness to our team. All he really needs to do on offense to be effective is to hit the 3-ball right now, and he seems to be able to do that.

Unfortunately, he haven't played enough to form a legit opinion. I have seen most of his sightings this year with Zalgiris at least, put some footage on youtube even (TheRealUcanUwill). I am not that impressed yet, he has no back to the basket game at all, even in Euroleague junior tournament, which he dominated, he never posted up even there, he dominated with his face up driving game, and the fact he was way taller than everyone else. That competition was strangely undersized, so I never put that much relevance in those numbers. He looks kinda one dimensional to me, on NBA draft board, I made a Channing Frye comparison.

His jumpshot sure looks nice tho, and he moves pretty well, not exceptionally, but looks like he can beat players with his first step, and can move well in pick and pop situations and off ball. Anyway, has a long way to go.

Not that we need a guard, but this draft is very deep. If Ball can shoot a good percentage despite his mechanics then he will either rise up the boards, and push someone else down or be too good to pass up.

I bet over Lonzo Ball...simply amazing
