He will be out of the league after his rookie contract is up.

I want to say no. Even if he doesn't meet the lofty expectations a lot of posters have for him he showed flashes of being an average starting level wing last year. The past 5 games he's been more or less invisible, but I'm going to hope that's an aberration.

One thing is for certain: his confidence/pride in himself and his actual talent and potential are worlds apart from each other. If you want to call yourself the best player in your draft and call out Kevin Durant and LeBron publicly throughout the course of the year you have to have the talent to back it up.

Too early to tell still.

But underwhelming with all the big talk he did last year? It's not even up for debate, yes he is.

Here's food for thought. Nobody knows what exactly his role is on this team. Is he a 3&D guy? Is he a post up guy? Is he a defender? Is he a point forward?

Apparently SJ doesn't either. He looks absolutely clueless out there. At this point we can't go wrong with one of Hilliard or Gbenejie out there since Bullock is injured.

I don't know what to think about him anymore. He was the player I had the highest hopes for this season and he's looked terrible.

If you compare him to his draft mates, it is looking that way. I'd still give him 1 more year to figure it out

He's not a 3&D guy because he can't shoot. He's not a post up guy because he has no post game. He's not a point forward because he's not a good play maker.

Package him and trade. SJ/Baynes, SJ/KCP.

What happened to him? Just curious. I was excited last season, he showed a lot of promise as a rookie. Did he not work on his game this summer? It definitely seems like he's regressed. He's a local kid (I'm from Santa Ana, CA where Stanley went to HS) so I was interested in keeping up with his progress. Everything I've heard about him made him seem like a gym rat and a hard worker, so I'm a bit perplexed at how poorly he's been playing so far. Hopefully just an early sophomore slump.

I really think he should just focus on defense and being a lock down defender, ie. Tony Allen

Hope so too. Looks pretty lost out there though.

He's been disappointing so far, no other way to put it. That said, it's waaaaay to early to write him off. I'm interested to see how he works himself out of this funk he's in. It's possible his skillset isn't a good fit with this roster and offensive scheme and he may be blossom someplace else, but I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet.

He's so bad right now, it almost looks like he's doing it on purpose as an "F you" to Van Gundy.. That's the vibe I get.. Who knows man..

stans 4 out 1 in offense doesnt really work with stanley. He need take a page from Tobias Harris and drive more to the basket and try to finish strong. maybe that will help his confidence

This. Johnson has the least defined role of anybody on the team and it's not helping him. I really like the improvements made most everywhere else, but Stanley has been marginalized a bit. That's not to say he isn't at blame because his offensive contributions have been horrendous thus far.

Detroit is in a weird spot with him. He's not really a two and adding a capable backup PF in Leuer allows Harris and/or Morris more time at the three. All of those guys figure to be around for a while. And then you hopefully have a contributor in Ellenson, who will likely be playing PF exclusively enough that any minutes at C aren't significant. I wouldn't be totally against trading Johnson for a backup two/combo guard who's a plus shooter with comparable value, but I don't think anybody like that is available either.
