I wasn't feeling it when I first saw it but after watching the ad, it does seem a bit cooler. The question then is whether the processing power is in the dock or the handheld screen. Logic says it would reside in the dock, in which case, does that mean you'll get lower resolution, lower FPS etc when you go mobile?

This is definitely a question I need answered before I'm going to throw money at it. Also battery life of the handheld and as Kerrsed pointed out, 3rd party titles.

The processor and everything is inside the screen. The docking station just acts as a charging station/HDMI output/stand.

The Switch is just like the NVIDIA Shield, but with a newer more custom Tegra Processor, Custom OS, and attachable Bluetooth controllers.

https://shield.nvidia.com/tablet/k1

Seriously, all they did was add railing on the sides for the controllers to slide on to, updated the processor and GUI, and DS like card support for games. Oh, i forgot, the bundled it with a stand/charger/AV out.

I don't think you can expect more than a few hours of juice, especially if the handheld is dishing out a fair amount of processing power on its own. Maybe I'm just old school but I don't like the look of Nintendo products. The Wii-U looked like an infants play toy and while the Switch is definitely more grown up in design, it's hard for me to fathom and not laugh at someone playing with it in public sphere. I guess I'm just a hater

Just finished a couple of good series. Quarry and Black Mirror.

I found a good summary of Quarry without spoilers from another forum:

This show is very good.

It has some good characters - I especially loved Buddy - shame I didn't see him a bit more (that scene where he was singing 'I cant live...' hahaha, I would have liked to have seen him do another job. There are some great dialogues, that right away, told me that this was a 'serious' show here (The Broker had some wonderful lines; the dialogues between Buddy and his mom). There was a soul to it, an intent, it was a meaningful show. In the slowest of the episodes (ep4 if I'm not mistaken), there was so much tension - it reminded me of No Country for Old Men.

Image

Karl is also great.

The fact that the action scenes were well done
Spoiler:
(blown away by the first shooting where Marlo gets killed)
, yet they don't overdo them, instead focusing on the characters, the settings and dialogues (thus why many will feel some episodes are very slow) just underlines that the show creators wanted to build something more unique than just a straight up story about killing. But when they did do the killing part, they were perfect.
Spoiler:
The way Mac killed Cliff, that cop at the end having his face blown off - just great moments that catch you off guard.

At the end of episode 3, when his wife escapes and Mac goes over there to pick her up, she goes to the car, but then returns to the house to give the dog water. That alone, right there, conquered me. The pool being so symbolic, the music, Munich Olympic Games, Spitz, Nixon, Segregation, so many details and topics that it touched. The music and cinematography are really top notch in this.

I loved the detail of him looking for a record.
Spoiler:
Later finding it with his wife's lover. Then returning it back home, playing it and leaving the gun on top. Masterful. So much tension - and yes - one of my main things: I wanted that girl dead. Killed. She cheated on him after he was back. But what did I say about this show going against the norm? Yes... they cared enough to develop the characters to a point where we could understand how they were able to get back together.

I could point out some flaws, but they didn't really bother me that much. One obvious one is that I felt that Mac would have been much more under the eye of the law. It kind of felt they could just roam free, shoot and kill and weren't bothered by the police. With it only being 8 episodes, maybe it wasn't possible, but they could have developed more on how badly he was viewed by society because of the massacre in Vietnam. The segregation part could have been developed a bit more as well. But overall, nothing was bugging me enough to distract me from how good and enjoyable the show was.

I will have to check how much budget they had on this. But everything looked so polished and well done. We were in Memphis, 1972. Such great music and beautiful naked girls ah. And then of course - the finale - those scenes in Vietnam were really incredible. The way the show ended was perfect with us going back to the very opening scene in the first episode.

Drama, tension and mystery. The show wrapped up well. They can expand this world much more - I mean, just check out Tom Noonan. He doesn't speak. He doesn't have to and you want to know everything about him and this killer for hire organization:

Looking forward to season 2.

And Black Mirror was solid. Sometimes it's tough to know which episodes you like the best. Some you want to say the best right after watching them but after some reflection may revise your rankings. Anyway for good stuff if you like sci fi.

I just read it for the 15th time and it's just as funny. Yes, it is real.

A couple more series I watched lately....

Goliath

Glitch

Both I found entertaining. Goliath has great characters, though it does get a bit over the top at times, and then Glitch is fun if you like that kind of stuff...kind of like The Returned but different enough to not feel like a retread.

Also just marathoned Designated Survivor and Timeless to catch up. Both not great shows, but fun ones.

A list of some movies I've seen recently enough that I haven't seen talked much about here: The Accountant, Girl on the Train, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Inferno, Doctor Strange.

The Accountant reminded me a lot of another Ben Affleck flick The Town. Although he didn't direct this one, both are - in my mind - better movies than they should've been given the premises.

I thought Girl on the Train was trashy fun. I'm not sure that's what they wanted it to be. I'll see just about anything with Emily Blunt in it, and she didn't disappoint here.

Ouija: Origin of Evil was a pretty solid PG-13 horror flick.

Inferno was not good. I mean, Ron Howard has been hit or miss lately, but this just felt lazy.

Doctor Strange is another solid Marvel flick, but I'm starting to get a little burned out on them. I didn't see it in 3D, so maybe that adds to the experience, but it's kind of like Ant-Man where there are a few fun bits, but nothing that makes me really want to see it again or really excited for a possible sequel. Hopefully Guardians Vol. 2 and Spiderman can start breathing new life into the Marvel Machine.

As far as TV goes, Westworld and You're the Worst are currently my only appointment viewing shows. I need to watch the latest Black Mirror episodes.

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

I loved The Town. I'll need to see The Accountant. I wanted to but for some reason when it came out it didn't seem like the buzz was good so I never did. Same with Girl on the Train.

I've been wanting to see Dr Strange and Hacksaw Ridge.

I went and saw Arrival on Friday. It was excellent.

ACK!! Tried it again. My Avast security software warned of a threat that was blocked, but I think something else got through because my whole system froze; had to manually hard-cycle my laptop, which took 10 minutes to come up...no thanks....not worth it. I'm surprise no one else has that issue. All I did was go to the Wizards game, clicked on it, then the next page, clicked the 'download' link, and all went to hell in a handbasket!

I use avast too. Do you use google chrome or not? If I don't use that and adblock I have a ton more problems. Though I still have issues if I try some sites like the tv show streaming ones sometimes or firstrowsports.

No, I use IE, not google chrome. Many times, I'm successful in steaming, like from the site you mentioned, in the past, but I think this has to do with trying to download a file. But no biggie, Kerrsed just sent me another option I'll try

That was an old joke, wasn't it??

Seriously, though, I'm not a fan of Google's "Personal Information Grab" that they are known for...much moreso than others. I use Firefox at times, as well, more and more, but haven't made the complete switch over yet, as that would involve me moving over all my bookmarks and stuff...and I'm lazy or posting in here!

I figure all those companies pretty much have that personal information grab by now. But with Chrome everything seems so much smoother, and then you have the google drive you can put everything in the cloud (obviously you could use other things for that, such as dropbox, or if you have apple, and numerous other places) but then google docs, spreadsheets, pictures, mail, calendar and all that is set up fairly well. Then google play, and especially music. Put all your music on one computer and you have it no matter where you go, on your phone, etc. Works well for me anyway. Much better than itunes and that crap.

Tarsem Singh is a genius. Even "The Cell" with all its problems is gorgeous to look at. Have you seen the trailer for his Wizard of Oz tv show "Emerald City" that comes out in January? If nothing else it looks like a unique take on the Oz mythology.

I saw the first episode of Quarry and thought it looked like it would be good. Don't have Cinemax though so would need to be nefarious if I wanted to see it. Black Mirror is genius of course. I've yet to watch the new episodes Netflix paid for but White Bear was the most powerful piece of storytelling I'd seen in a long time when it came out.

No i havent but i will now. Truth is the tv quality here in Greece is horrible so i dont even own a tv, have to search for this stuff myself. These days i watched all the movies Wes Anderson made since I loved the grand budapest hotel. Really love his style, attention to detail, well built characters and quirky humor, something different than every day cinema, not for everyone tho.
