Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXXI
Beal wasn't even that great of a college prospect. His film looked "aite" and his shooting wasn't even that good in his lone season at Florida. I remember having a preference for MKG. That would have been a mistake I think, but turning down Harden is something I wouldn't have done as GM of this team.

Never wanted Beal in that draft and argued vehemently for Drummond. Seems like I was proven right on that one.

Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXXI
It seems inevitable that someone is going to steal/trade for Richaun Holmes. Philly's acquisition of Ilyasova really squeezes Holmes' minutes. When they're healthy, they have their 3 high draft pick young centers, Saric (who is the clear starter at PF), and not to mention Ben Simmons when he recovers - who is not a PG. Simmons is a PF who you can run the offense through - and he currently has no jump shot. This leaves no room for Holmes.

The Wizards need to trade Beal to the Sixers with the quickness.
ANY deal that salaries match.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Sounds good to me, and now that Hinkle's not there, maybe we can get some of those extra draft picks Philly has.
And actually, I don't think we'd need to match salaries, because I think they're still under the cap.

Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXXI
What do you guys think about trying to get Ariza back?
He might be just what the doctor ordered at the 3 for us. He fires the 3 off with any space he can and with a fast release, and he's shot the ball at a good percentage for some years now. Obviously we know about his experience and what he can do defensively.
I think Otto is best suited as a 4 for this team. He'll take the open three, but between him and Brad you've got two guys that won't shoot anything that's not wide open. As well, he's clearly most comfortable around the rim getting tip ins, offensive boards, working around the midrange pick and pop area, cutting, etc.

Sad. Was just now thinking about this before I read your post. We would have to trade Wall, as I dont think Wall and Harden can co-exist in the same back court.
I abhor Silver

Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXXI
Given the contract status of Iggy and Livingston, I'm wondering if the Warriors would move them in a package including Oubre and Mahinmi.
Generally not a big fan of moving assets and Oubre clearly has potential, but this team is clearly committed to mediocrity and adding those two would get them much closer.
The Warriors add toughness and lineup flexibility and Washington adds some legitimate depth to the roster while also gaining salary cap flexibility next year.

Moving Oubre for Iggy would be a mistake i think. Iggy is on the last year of his contract and he looks to be a facing a decline soon. He'll also be getting paid big money. I could see him going back to Philly for a near max.

I'll say! And how about those GMs who drafted Dion Waiters, Thomas Robinson, Harrison Barnes or Terrence Ross over Drummond!
Good G-d -- imagine if Golden State had drafted Drummond instead of Barnes!! Yikes...!

I like the idea of bringing back Ariza, I still rate the nickle and diming that drove him to Houston as one of the bigger recent blunders.
I probably wouldn't bother with Porter at the 4 much though, with Ariza starting I'd envision Porter as the sixth man and Ariza splitting minutes at the 2 and 3.
As usual though the problem is with the lack of assets on this team. Other than Oubre whom could the Wizards offer the Rockets might interested in?

My choice was MKG or BB - whoever was left after Charlotte picked, since they were certain to take one of them.
In retrospect, the best players in that draft were Davis (of course), Lillard & Drummond, in the top 10, and Draymond Green at #35.
It's worth noting that 9 good players came from picks 11-30 in that draft. And 8 good players came from picks 31-50.

I don't see anyone trading for Beal at his salary, sorry.
That said, of course I'd love to have Richaun Holmes.

There are teams that shouldn't be concerned about his Salary like the Lakers and Philly--who won't have to pay their foundation pieces for many years. The question is whether they like his talent enough or not, and what they'd have to give back.
@queridiculo Yea, you know you're in a bad spot when you don't have assets to bring back a roleplayer like Ariza.

I thought he was one of the few free agent bargains of the offseason.

Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXXI
I wasn't sold on Howard primarily because of comments about how envisioned himself as a player.
The Howard that stays within himself offensively and focuses on putting his skills to use by rebounding and pushing people around on defense is still a great player, and it looks like he totally bought into playing that way with the Hawks so far.

He's always been an efficient scorer and is actually taking 3.3 more shots per 40 minutes so far than he did last season. The big thing, imo, is that he said his back is healthy. As long as he's healthy, he's a helluva player. Even playing through his back problems, he's been a good player. Instead of getting credit for that, he's taken a ton of abuse in the media - mainly because he smiles when people in the media don't think it's appropriate to smile - and it became popular to bash him.

I just don't understand how we can quickly agree to a deal with Ian but never ended up even putting out feelers for Dwight

Easy. Dwight wanted more money, he wanted to start, he has a worse injury history, he is from ATL, and Gortat and him dont get along.
