Carmelo Anthony is old and declining. He is no longer a top 20 or even top 30 player in this league. It's time to wake up and smell the coffee. A player's career doesn't last forever. Everyone gets old and Melo is beginning to look his age. If we can convince him to finally waive his no trade clause by the deadline then we should take whatever scraps we can get from a contender and begin a true rebuild. Of course this is wishful thinking from a franchise that has never really chosen to rebuild.
With the way the roster is set up the best and smartest thing to do is suck again this year and for years to come, collect young talent and rebuild around Porzingis and our future draft picks. Courtney Lee can stay and there's a few other good pieces on the team. But Rose has no future here and isn't a PG, Noah looks 41 rather than 31, Lance Thomas is just not good, Sasha Vujacic still manages to get minutes on an NBA team, etc.
Noah is untradeable and we will be saddled with his contract for years to come, ala Jerome James. But we can maneuver other players with this roster if only we can get Melo to finally let go and finish his career elsewhere for the good of himself and the franchise.
Forget the Triangle and anything else. If Dolan wasn't a huge moron he would have thrown money at Thibs - or even better yet, he would have went after a true franchise-changing GM like RC Buford, Sam Presti, Bob Meyers, Masai Ujiri, Jerry Colangelo, etc. Dolan pretends like he knows what he's doing when all he has ever done is go for style over substance ever single time. The only time he made a semi-competent basketball move was when Stern forced him to hire Donnie Walsh. Other than that he has gone with the big name Isiah Thomas and Phil Jackson signings, 2 people who were never qualified for their positions.
We are a franchise in the greatest city in the world that has been a joke for nearly 20 years. We are run by a narcissistic, clueless, egotistical, talentless idiot who knows zero about running a sports franchise. We care cursed with the worst owner in sports, who has transformed the Knicks from a once-respected franchise to a punch line and embarrassment. The Knicks are the worst franchise in the NBA. Only the Kings come close but their run of bad form is still very recent compared to the Knicks. The Clippers - the last NBA punch line - pulled themselves out of basketball oblivion once Sterling was forced to sell the team. That is our only salvation.
