Game 4 at Minnesota - did anyone notice?

Post#1 » by NuggetsWY » Fri Nov 4, 2016 1:29 am

Hernangomez got a few minutes, looked OK.
Scott Hastings says Murray is afraid to shoot because of all his misses. Suggested the coach ought to run a play to get him a basket - hasn't happened yet.
Hastings also commented early on about how the "High pick-n-roll" has the Nuggets guards coming over the top and ending up "three or four steps behind" resulting in easy attacks in the paint.
LOL - sounds like "Homer Hastings" ain't so much a homer no more.
My wife said it seems like the Nuggets are either tired or lazy, but what does she know? She doesn't watch much basketball.
Last thought at halftime: Malone, the coach who loves playing guards, only has four suited up tonight. In the first half he only played three of them. Must be Beasley is not worth trying out?

That other random gamthread was meant to be for this game. Terrible D in the first Q, playing better now. Nurkic the best player out there for the Nuggets right now. Be nice if a few other guys played with his intensity.

My Bucs are playing. I only get 16 of those games a year so they get priority. I'll flip over at halftime haha

Since I can't leave the house easily, I get about 15-20 Twolves games and 15-20 Jazz games and 15-20 Trailblazer games and 82 Nuggets games plus NBATV games and TNT games and TBS or ESPN or whatever. LOL Glad I have a DVR, during NBA season, I see a LOT of games. Not a big college fan, but I watch all of the Wyoming Cowboys (most are on TV) plus a few games when teams look evenly matched - hate those college games where the finally score is 200-2 (an exageration, but ...)

I know he's 20 but wth did Mudiay do all summer? They should be getting the ball to Nurk in the post, not dribbling around and shooting 3's. They're gonna lose this game

Pulled out a nice road win but not without a little drama, Nelson had poor ball-mgmt at the end there. Mudiay seemed to want to be the go-to guy (something we're sorely lacking) but still need a more consistent shot (old story there). Lotta ragging going in this forum, but they ARE at .500 and are competing, while dealing with injuries and truly a bit of lack of confidence. We aren't playing on all cylinders, seems a lack of overall chemistry, clear rotation and players like Gallo, Mudiay and Jokic (three players we're counting on) are yet to play up to their potential.... and are yet they're finding a way, and while on a terrible road trip.

Did anyone notice.....we've fought back in every game to take the lead...lost it in TOR and POR but aren't both of those teams expected to be stronger than us ?? Yet we were in, and could've won BOTH. Playing arm-chair PG/Coach is easy, this Debbie Downer stuff will be more appropriate after 25 games if we're losing big, don't ya think ??

True, Mudiay did seem to want to dominate the ball, problem is he was the least talented player out there. Been a Nuggets fan a long time, I'll never be content with .500 ball

Yeah, I like winning to but I learned to crawl before I walked. I've been a fan since Ralph Simpson and Mack Calvin were player for the then Rockets, I want a championship too. Disagree about Mudiay being the least talented, at least with Nelson on the court, but no one else wanted the ball. Gallo sees to want to take the 30footer, Nurkic isn't getting position in the post, Nelson wants to dribble down the clock instead of wanting to make plays...poor coaching ?? maybe, poor decisions, mostly !! Lack of confidence, seems more than likely to me !! If you think we're ready to compete with GS, CLE or the Spurs you're fooling yourself !

Mudiay was 4-18 and -5, Nelson was 5-10 and +6. Nelson was better than Mudiay tonight and that's not saying much because I'm not a Nelson fan either. We probably have a bottom 5 PG combo. Nurkic can get position in the post, did it the first 3 quarters, they just decided to dribble around and shoot 3's in the 4th.

You know I'm one of the most critical on here, of course we're not an elite team...but it doesn't mean I'm overjoyed we're 2-2. Could be 4-0 or 0-4 with how close they've been.

Too early to criticize? Probably not. After all, in the following, you went ahead and criticized anyway.

Nelson was dribbling down the clock far earlier than any team that doesn't have a 20 pt lead.
What you are describing is the basic team of last year.

Sports such as the NBA have loads of talented players. The difference between the top and the bottom is usually "superstar(s)". The difference between the middle and moving up or moving down, often comes down to coaching. A good contractor can take good employees and form a great team. A bad contractor can take good employees and develop a frighteningly terrible team.

Malone seems to have great people skills. He always wears a smile. He gives positive encouragement during the practices that are video taped. Yet he doesn't seem to inspire confidence in young players, not consistently. Last year Jokic EVENTUALLY became a favorite while he implied Nurkic wouldn't get playing time until his attitude in practice was better. This year Murray is obviously struggling with his confidence in shooting - a young man that was considered one of the very best in his class and in the history of the University of Kentucky. Where did his confidence go? Shouldn't the coach help him get it back? How many teams run a play for a big man first thing just to get him confidence and show him he'll get his touches? Hernangomez finally got a few minutes, love that but why oh why did he get minutes and not Beasley. By my count we had one more big for this game than our previous games and we were down to guards. So Malone elects to play his third string PF in the same game where his second string PF plays for the first time. While he elects to play just three guards when he is missing his first and second SGs???? We've said it for a long time, his rotations don't make sense and I'm already starting to doubt - too many little things; like big fourth quarter leads in four games and all four games came down to the wire. And the list goes on.

Fourth consecutive close game and another really bad last two minutes of the game. Against a upper tier team (like portland or toronto) denver wuold have lose even this one.
But a win is a win.

Finishing continues to be an issue but it's hard to be too upset after a win, especially against a team that's on a similar path yet everyone thinks will be better than us. This team can hang with anyone through the first 45 minutes or so, just need someone to step up and close the door.

Now this is why they pursued Wade...
