Seems Patrick Ewing is following my line of thinking that I proclaimed back in the summer.Embiid will be/ is already the most dominating Center in the NBA. Part of that is due to the dearth of dominating big men especially in comparison to the past.

He hasnt played basketball in 3 years. That rust will be knocked off. In 2-3 years Embiid may very well become the next Wilt Chamberlain.

So far from what I have seen from Embiid makes me believe even more that he's the best big man prospect since Duncan and can eventually become one of the greatest centers ever if he can stay healthy and play starters minutes.

Step 1: Player X becomes good
Step 2: Report released that Danny Ainge almost got player X before everyone knew they were good
Step 3: Repeat

In this case, I actually do believe Ainge tried to trade for Embiid in 2014 however picks 6 and 17 are not going to get you in the top 3 in a 3 player draft. Its also just funny at this point that the Celtics PR machine puts this out about every decent player in the league. Seems the Celtics call about everyone trying to get a home run deal (which is what Ainge should be doing) but then love to tell everyone how close they were to a deal.
The feedback I've received from our fans is they understand we are trying to build something great. Good decisions come from having a broad set of options and making tough calls. We will do it unblinkingly. We have to be willing to take smart risks-Hinkie

That is the Celtics' MO but in this situation I do remember reports coming out shortly after the draft that Ainge was trying to move up.

Yeah. Funny how this wasn't coming out while people were questioning whether he'd ever play a game. You also never hear the "we tried like crazy, but weren't able to pull of that deal to move up for Adam Morrison" stories.

He said that would have taken Embiid at 6 immediatly after the 2014 draft.

“Yes, we would have,” Ainge said on The Sports Hub’s “Toucher & Rich,” via MassLive. “He was not red-flagged, meaning ‘Stay away at all costs.’ He was rated a little bit less than (he would have been) with (his injury) risk, but he was a guy that we were looking at, had he fallen.”

http://nesn.com/2014/06/danny-ainge-celtics-would-have-drafted-joel-embiid-at-no-6/

So it's safe to suppose that he also tried to move up.

But that package (6 plus 17) could come from Simmons not from Celtics' frot office.

I don't think it's a fake report. I remember Ainge flatly saying he would have drafted Embiid if he fell to him. I found it out of the norm then, as most GMs claim they drafted the #1 player on their board on draft day. Ainge made it plain that he thought Embiid was the best player in that draft.

Embiid... 20 pts - 6-12 FG, 4 3FGM on 4 shots, 4-4 FT, 6 rebs, 2 blocks, 2 assists in 19 minutes. Still will hopefully play about 4 more minutes. Sixers lead 94-91 with 7 minutes to go...

Watched the game and man is he something else. Dude has a great jumpshot not just for a big but for a player period...he is sporting around a point per minute, is there any chance that he is able to average a point per minute at his peak? Something like 30 mins and 30 points? Hes almost doing it as a rookie who hasnt played ball in 2.5 years. I say hes capable.
They call me Hussien Fatal its a two game table im robbin you **** cradle wit a knife in your navel....

Man how good is he. It was amazing to see Lebron hesitate to go straight to the rim. He really got it all. I love to be a sixers fan right now.

This guy is the real deal, I said it earlier but I honestly think if he says healthy he'll be a 25/10 guy for many, many years.

He's so good that any team that will be a contender before 2030 should hope he gets injured again.
