Yeah, me neither.

I don't know, I'm in favor of going after guys at unknown of programs. Everyone has seen guys from Kansas plenty but there is benefit on taking on little known guys that have potentially gone under the radar. Most likely won't pan out but I'd love to see a study that compares D-League to NBA jumps from different levels of collegiate or overseas basketball.

I'd be willing to bet that while many players from top programs are signed by D-league teams due to notoriety a fewer number percentage wise end up making a NBA bench.

Updated projected Greensboro Swarm opening day starting 5: Xavier Munford, Rasheed Sulaimon, Damien Wilkins, Perry Ellis, Mike Tobey

Curious how long we're going to let Wood and Harrison hang around before they get sent to Greensboro for more game experience.

Should've gone with spider wasp as the mascot.

Spider wasps are solitary wasps that use a single spider as a host for feeding their larvae. They paralyze the spider with a venomous stinger. Once paralyzed, the spider is dragged to where a nest will be built – some wasps having already made a nest. A single egg is laid on the abdomen of the spider, and the nest or burrow is closed. Spider wasps protect their nests by putting dead ants into the outermost chamber, the chemicals within deterring predators.

The size of the host can influence whether the wasp's egg will develop as a male or a female; larger prey yield the (larger) females. A complex set of adult behaviors can then occur, such as spreading soil or inspecting the area, leaving the nest site inconspicuous. When the wasp larva hatches, it begins to feed on the still-living spider. After consuming the edible parts of the spider, the larva spins a silk cocoon and pupates, usually emerging as an adult the next summer. Some ceropalines lay the egg on a still-active spider, where it feeds externally on hemolymph. In time, that spider will die, and the mature wasp larva will then pupate.

@DLeagueDigest
The Greensboro Swarm have waived Ky Howard, Keala King, Ron Mvouika and Jamie Skeen, league source tells D-League Digest.

Gets them down to 11, Xavier Munford presumably joining the team gets them to the twelve player max.

For those keeping score, three of those cuts were draft picks (Rounds 2, 4, and 5) and the last was a former Bobcat training camp participant.

Opening night for the Swarm is November 12, next Saturday. Are Wood, Harrison, and Graham going to stay on the bench and keep traveling with the team or will they head off to Greensboro at some point?

I'd imagine they'll stay with Charlotte as long as we have injuries. Once Lamb and Roy are healthy we'll probably see Harrison and Wood assigned.

is the only way to watch DLeague games online via Facebook? I was thinking they would be streamed on YouTube. I am not reactivating FB for the Swarm, sorry.

Good Lord, Swarm are down 79-37 at the home opener. What the hell? We need to send Kemba down to the Dleague to help those guys.

Answering my own question, you do not need FB, just have to click the "not now" box when it asks you to sign in and you can watch the games.

the answer to the trivia question who scored the Swarm first points: Damien Wilkins. Wilkins also addressed the crowd before the game. I guess he's like the wily vet showing the kids how to be professional or something, but he's not even good at basketball

More trivia from the color commentator: MIke Tobey has worn #10 his whole bball career because he was born at 10 am on 10/10 and weighed 10 pounds lol. tmi

Tobey looked ok in this context but it'll be a couple years before he's strong enough to play in the NBA. Munford looked pretty skinny and a meh finisher.

Perry Ellis looked hang dog. Reminded me of waay back when the Asheville Altitude had Chris Carrawell. I was excited to go watch Carrawell since he'd looked pretty good the year before at Duke. But his body language was terrible - like the D League was beneath him - and that's the same feeling I got watching Ellis in this game. Hopefully he's just still working back from the sports hernia.

2 guys who caught my eye on Gboro in terms of potentially filling Hornets needs were both SF:

Frank Rogers (never heard of him) is 6'9 has long arms made two 3pters and an assortment of good plays in 8 minutes. I'd like to see more.

Shonn MIller: doesn't do much of anything on the offensive side, but strong nba body and really sharp team defender, could see him watching the passing lanes and thinking on the court, would fit Cliff's systems but only as a deep bench guy

the best guys on the floor were on the other side: Ben Bentil and Alex Poythress

In the 5 minutes or so that I watched in the 3rd Tobey missed two layups. Bentil looked like the best player on the floor. I'm not sure what skills Sulaimon is supposed to have? He looks completely vanilla. Backup PG has a slow/low release on shot.

wow. we have Xavier Munford on the Swarm!? I now see that we actually traded a D-League draft pick for him, whatever that means

Read on Twitter

he's decent. I liked him on the Grizz last year when they had a season from hell in regards to injuries. Munford can definitely be a back-up in the NBA.

the trade makes me wonder whether we have any long-term plans for him. he's definitely better than Roberts, but that being said Roberts is moreso on the roster due to his character than his basketball skills. is getting Munford as a 3rd PG worth it?

Edit: we have traded Roberts in the middle of the season beforehand though.

Excellent news for the DL, not so great for the NCAA. With only an 18-year-old age minimum, this should help keep the Brandon Jennings and Emmanuel Mudiays of the world stateside, and could allow the DLeague to also poach some one-and-done players straight out of high school.
