Hughes was a lot worse in the Future's Game last year because they go out there throwing strictly fastballs instead of showing off their stuff.

The announcers seemed to love Joba, they couldn't praise his character any more than they did.

Action Jackson is ripping the FSL a new one. :)

Tabata seems to be having a very good effect on AJ, he never hit like this in the SAL. I say keep Tabata where he is.

Tabata is definitely helping Jackson. Tabata is a player who, even with a bad wrist and only hitting about .290, was being intentionally walked. Now that he is hitting .317 and 100% healthy (seemingly), I'd be shocked if Jackson gets anything other than fastballs.

Aside from that, Jackson has been working with Reggie down in Tampa and I think he was just bored with Charleston. Finally being promoted gave him some confidence and lit a fire under him. He was coming into his own before the promotion, but now he is a different player. Hopefully he keeps it up.

Tabata is way ahead of Jackson in terms of development, regardless of their ages. Tabata is likely to finish the season in AA and be in AAA towards the end of next season if he hits like he should. Jackson, if he keeps this up, may start next season in AA. If Jackson continues at this incredible rate, he may be able to keep up with Tabata. But I don't think the organization is going to worry about moving them along together.

I would think that Jose Tabata would be promted by the end of the year at least. He is on the 40 man roster to be(premlimanary)

Action Jackson needs some protection if Tabata is going to be promoted. After Tabata, there really isn't that much at Tampa, other than Cervelli.

Tabata is only 18, he can stay in Tampa for the rest of the year IMO. Let Jackson benefit from him being there.

You don't hold a guy back just to help another player. When the player is ready to progress and handle a new challenge, you move him along. You don't wait for the guy ahead of him to be ready.

Sure with Tabata's young age, it won't hurt to remain in Tampa for an extra 2 months...but it just isn't necessary. If he is healthy and hitting, move him up. Jackson will catch up.

My point is... there is no rush to get Tabata up to Trenton. If Jackson starts to struggle mightily and Tabata keeps hitting, then you move Tabata up. But they have a good thing going there and if they can move to another level at the same time, that's for the best.

Well at this point, I don't think it would be rushing Tabata. The organization has waited until he was completely healthy, and until he started raking (and putting up better power numbers). He has had 3 months at the level, and his numbers prove that he is ready for the challenge at AA. Most guys are just ''passing through'' low and high A ball. They spend their most time in AA because that is the biggest jump, and they are now closing in on the major leagues. Let him get 2 months in AA THIS year, so that he doesn't need a FULL season (or more) there next year. He has nothing else to adjust to in high A ball.

So far,

Tabata - 0 for 4
Action Jackson - 2 for 4, double, HR

Jackson is really trying to get to Trenton before Tabata :)

How would you like to be a member of the New Britain lineup? You'd be getting ready to face Phil Hughes on Friday, then Joba Chamberlain on Saturday, and Alan Horne on Sunday. You'd miss Kennedy, but only because he pitches on Thursday. What a preview of what will hopefully be an amazing major league pitching staff.

Hughes will only be making 60 pitches in that Trenton start, unfortunately. He won't be in for long.
