How good is the Net's bench?
I think it is about average.
The players I see contributing early are.
Hamilton.
Kilpatrick.
Scola.
Vasquez.
Foyle.
Terrible defense, unless Hamilton is better than expected, then it's only bad. But, they are veteran players who can score and not make too many mistakes.
Now, if at least 2 of these guys can step up, the bench would become more athletic and better defensively. The bench could become a strength.
LeVert
CMC
Whitehead
Bennett.

it depends on vazques. if he is healthy, that gives us a real 6th man. outside of him, no one but may kilpatrick is capable of that role imo.
health is really a big factor for our bench. how many games/minutes can we count on for grevis, scola, foye, and levert?

I think Kilpatrick and Vasquez if healthy will be consistent contributors. The jury is out on everyone else.

hamilton looks like a smart defender and can block some shots, they said he wasnt a great rebounder. you forgot joe harris, i think he will be a nice shooter off bench. i think levert will definitely be a solid bench guy. im high on levert if healthy. i dont see whitehead getting any minutes unless theres an injury at pg or possibly sg. im not sure they will give minutes to whitehead when they got lin and vasquez unless they want to try whitehead at sg. i bet whitehead rides bench or d league most of season. i think bennett and mccullough will compete with each other to see if they can get any minutes off bench.

Seems OK on O, but on D.......
A healthy LV would be key.
I can see Lin and RHJ playing with the bench sometimes
Good thing is that it's fairly deep, so Atkinson could dish out PT based on effort.

Thanks for the honesty.MorbidHEAT wrote:My dislike for Lin started during Linsanity. It was absurd. It's probably irrational dislike at this point, but man he gets on my nerves. He's been tearing us up though.

Re: How good is the Net's bench?
It depends on what we're able to get out of Vasquez, Scola & Foye. If Vasquez is able to get back to his Toronto level (when he was good for Toronto), he'll be a good bench player to have. Scola looked decent at the Olympics and was able to contribute on a good Raps team last year. Foye hopefully can get his shooting stroke back. Maybe Hamilton will be a surprise. I expect Kilpatrick to continue what he did last season. Regardless, even in the best case scenario, the bench will be horrible defensively and maybe good offensively. Bench really isn't our problem though, our starting lineup is awful and/or a bad fit.

Re: How good is the Net's bench?
It's not an issue of the bench being the problem. It about can it become a strength. Anyways, the starting line up has been discussed to death.
When a team has a lack of obvious talent and is expected to lose a lot of games. You need everyone to play well together including the bench. Even if the starters play better than expected, if the bench sucks, they will lose games that they could have won.
It's obvious, the Nets weren't able to bring in or compete for top talent. But, they were able to compete with most other teams for bench talent. I think it will be an important part of the game where you can judge the effectiveness of the new management and their approach to talent evaluation, coaching ability and player development. Is this just a hodge podge of players or is there a plan?

Looks like you were right.
I was more optimistic than most and thought they would be average, but they are exceeding expectations so far.
It's all the young guys who have stepped up. Skil has been fantastic. Harris has a better all around game than expected. Whitehead has brought athleticism and the hustle that's sorely needed. But I think Hamilton, who seems to make all the correct plays, is the most important piece due to the lack of big guys on the team.
I can't wait to see what LeVert can bring to the team when he finally gets healthy enough to play.

It's early, less than 10 games into the season. We don't even have a decent 20 game sample size, but the early returns have the Nets bench producing the 2nd most points in the NBA, behind only the LA Lakers. Color me impressed

Well, that was to be expected when your starters have trouble contributing offensively and you don't have max salary stars.
