Will Aaron Gordon return to the power forward position this season?

Post#1 » by MikeJSmith » Thu Nov 10, 2016 4:49 am

Thus far, while it is early, the aaron gordon experiment at the 3 has been terrible. Many things have attributed to our sub-par performances and changes need to be made rotation wise at least temporarily. Elfrid operates best in a fast paced system where he can run in transition and Aaron Gordon at the four would support this well. Not Sure how the center position would work out but we would have the option of going defensive (biyombo) offensive(vuc) or small with ibaka.

Think there is any chance that Aaron Gordon moves to the four?

Its been discussed to death... Consensus wise most everyone here wants him back at the 4... But for various reasons it will not likely happen this season.

1. Management has made it clear they want to develop his perimeter game by just inserting him at the 3 at every single chance.
2. If he plays the 4, either Ibaka or Vucevic get moved to the bench in favor for Hezonja (Whose been much worse than AG at the 3)
3. The continuity factor compounded by the fact Vogel isn't willing to just abandon the game plan to build chemistry.

At this rate, the Magic will most likely be at the bottom of the standings due to the lack of talent/cohesiveness. So they pretty much have nothing to lose at this point but to continue the experiment for the rest of the year.

Next year I'm assuming he'll either be traded or pushed back to the PF position.

The only way Aaron gonna play PF is if the Magic trade someone named Nikola, Bismack or Serge. Until then its just not going to happen

Or if someone is getting injured (hope not!!). Prolly Henny and Frank promised a certain amount of minutes and roles to those players

So at this point it's not even up to Frank? Alex and rob already made the decision to keep him at the 3? And yea I agree Mario has been worse but I would rather see him get 25+ minutes a night than watch serge ibaka at least Mario may or may not develop. Serge's career already happened.

We are paying Ibaka, Vuc, Biz and Green way too much money this season for this to happen.

I'd like to see us give him the ball on something other than a broken play for once. Very few people are looking good in this offense. Only Elfrid and Vuc at times, but thats because they are the two least likely to make a bad decision with the ball.

He's doing a great job guarding 3's one on one as well.

I hope we do move him to the 4 but not sure if it will happen , idk something is not right and a change has to be made ! I'm even koo with trying green at the 4 so he can actually stretch out the defense but we would probably have to start biz at that point !

Worse than AG at the 3 is Ibaka in the squad. He's just not good when you don't have two stars to carry the team.
It's also not a good thing when your "go-to-guy" makes 16 PPG.

We should go back to rebuilding mode. Play Elfrid, Mario and Gordon (at the 4, please) and f*** the record.
Ibaka isn't changing this team into a contender. Send him to the Celtics or Raptors that are contending and in need of a PF.
Even the Warriors could use Ibaka in Pachulia's spot.

Fire Henigan and hire Hinkie!

I remember going to TWolves game last year and we beat them in an OT game and Fournier made the game winner. That was alot of fun.

Payton, Fournier, Tobias, Nicholson and Smith outplayed them the second half and down the stretch. was great.

ag definitely does guard 3's well one on one ill give him that but that's just a defensive matchup strategy we could still play him at the four and have him defend threes. I just think after watching the timberwolves its clear that in order to find out what our players are, they have to have the opportunities to make mistakes and play high volumes of minutes. I would rather see Mario get extra minutes at the 2/3 while moving AG to the four. it just makes more sense to me. jeff green is not the answer and neither is serge ibaka. dj has proven to be an excellent back up point guard. if we could teach biyombo how to keep the ball above his head on rebounds (look at how effectively pau gasol does it) he could be much more effective.

Yes, right after we trade Vucevic.
