Absolutely.
Just to be clear, I wasn't really questioning whether Trump people started it. I was trying to point out that just because they started it doesn't make it effective to continue the divide.
Every significant social advancement in the history of the United States results from one side creating a divide, the other side overtly calling it what it is, and them prevailing over it through acts of non-unity.
Tuesday marked a day when whatever was left of the veil over American bigotry was ripped away by the bigots themselves.
There will be no acceptance of that involving compromise by the targets of that bigotry. So it's going to be an extraordinarily divisive time in our nation's history. At least that is my prediction.
As for Trump's words, I don't think you grasp the issue. It's not Trump. It's the election of Trump by America. That's a critical distinction.
You have good points here. I won't argue them. It is scary that we elected him. Though to be clear, less than 19% of Americans voted for him, many of whom did it with their nose held shut.
It says just as much if not more about the failure of our democratic, primary and election system as it does about some underlying flaw in the American people (the election system is definitely ****, yet that barely registers a blip in Washington, yet probably only like 10% of Americans "support" Trump.
Also, IMO, America isn't very socially advanced. Maybe we'd make quicker "social progress" if we weren't digging into each other all the time. I'm looking for leadership on that. Trump surely didn't show that leadership as a candidate, but I suppose I'll give him a chance to as pres. I have no alternative that appeals to me right now other than "acceptance" and "benefit of the doubt". In case it wasn't obvious to people for the last 15 years, I'm a criminal defense attorney at heart, for better or worse.
