Just keep that theme in mind if you think running for independency was the smart move.
This isn't about who ran, running independent, or whatever you think. This is about a system that people believe is broken.
People see civilians getting murdered by police in broad daylight, getting paid leave and not getting convicted by any of these prosecutors and think that's a sign that the system is broken.
People see counties that derive large amounts of revenue from the unevenly enforced misdemeanors that punish people for being poor and result in the creation of debtors prisons and think that's a sign that the system is broken.
People are finding it tougher to get by as a middle class American regardless of race, gender, orientation and think that's a sign that the system is broken.
People are finding it impossible to pay for the college and graduate school necessary to make a decent living in America and think that's a sign that the system is broken
People are finding it impossible to work in education for the state, and promote the education of our youth, when most states' highest paid employees are football coaches and think that's a sign that the system is broken.
People are seeing jobs dwindling and national debt rising as globalization is helping every other country prosper except America where it feels for the average person things are getting worse, and think that's a sign that the sytem is broken.
The system isn't broken. It's working exactly like it was designed to. It's been this way, it doesn't change no matter who's in office cause everyone's more concerned with the optics than dealing with reality.
So why would anyone who feels that the system is broken elect someone who wants things to stay the same?
All of a sudden, now that a woman is elected in office that's supposed to be a sign of progress? When Obama was in office, did that mean racism ended like everyone wanted to believe? Or have things just gotten worse as the real issues get swept under the rug, and your candidate danced with Beyonce & JayZ and smears hot sauce on all her kale salads?
Until everyone realizes the system is working exactly the way it is designed people aren't ever going to work themselves out of their current situation.
Bernie was advocating removing the money that influences politicians. We all know that this is against everything the establishment stands for and it'd be impossible for him to achieve what he wanted to accomplish, but him getting backstabbed by his own establishment just proves the point
The system works by getting you jazzed up about a politician who does nothing for you just like Obama did nothing for his biggest supporters. The only way to impart change on the system is with votes or capital. And until people can control their own capital or organize among themselves to organize those within the community who have access to capital not a damn thing's gonna change.
You are not getting my point... I am Pro Bernie and I believe in his ideology of democratic socialism is the best way for America to progress. It's not a perfect system but nothing is perfect in life. It's about changing the influence of people in this world. It's about giving people opportunities to get advance educations (i.e. universities) in order for growth and knowledge to advance as a whole. Capitalism works just fine and it will but in todays world rich get richer because they have to protect their own. Same instinct goes with families. However, knowledge is power and no way you beat the rich unless there is some cap restriction (like in the NBA). Or else team's like the Yankees will always get their powerhouse players no matter what and will always be on the conversation to be on top.
My point is in order for Bernie to win he needs to be elected in one of the two popular campaigns because people are just simply that stupid. They will vote for Hillary thinking that a woman president is progression. Which in fact (like you said) it's not. People are just plain stupid and will always go after dumb crap like this.
We don't even have go that far when it's happening to the team we love. We switch our GM to Sean Marks and completely change the culture of our team. Yet, dumb people speaks talks about our team like it's complete garbage (i.e. worst team in the league) in terms of statistics. When the reality those statistics does not completely justify equations. Yet, it's happening right now, we are winning games even given the lack of talent the team has. But in the beginning majority of the people will just label this team crap just because of the fear of understanding the unknown. This is human instinct and nothing will ever change.
I can even make an example of me making a thread a week ago calling out mods. Yet, they suspended me for 3 days and then deleted my whole thread. Just think about that.... This is people and you have to deal with them. The only way you deal with them is to get in the system from within and change it. Which is what Bernie was trying to do which is why he was trying to be elected in the Democratic party.
But take a look at the flip side. The campaign of Donald Trump was the exact same as Sanders' in terms of trying to work within the system position within the party.
When Bernie faced opposition within the party, when the leaders were against him, when Hilary was conspiring to steal the nomination regardless, they asked him if he would run independent. They said he would destroy the party if he did. In response, he doubled down and bowed out.
Trump on the other hand was willing to take the risk and call out his own party. He was the one who forced his way to the table by gaining a following. He was the one who convinced Americans the party heads were against him. When they told him the party would be destroyed if he ran independently, he gave the middle finger to the system and said deal with it. The entire campaign of Donald Trump has been cast in contrast with Sanders, who at the end of the day pussed out and kissed the Democrats' ring.
For better or worse, Bernie Sanders showed his true colors by bowing out and not fighting it- he is someone who wasn't willing to take the risks Trunp was in order to win. For Bernie, his political cache was everything. When the Dems threatened him he chickened out. For Trump, the only thing he had was the money in his pocket. He didn't give a damn about Paul Ryan, and had nothing to lose by going for broke. Love him or hate him, at least he had the nerve to put up a fight.
In the words of Immortal Technique, "[People] talk about change and working within the system to achieve that. The problem with always being a conformist is that when you try to change the system from within, it's not you who changes the system; it's the system that will eventually change you. There is usually nothing wrong with compromise in a situation, but compromising yourself in a situation is another story completely, and I have seen this happen long enough in the few years that I've been alive to know that it's a serious problem."
