I've said this before but:

Brandon Knight makes a bad offensive system look REALLY bad. He has one of the lowest floors of a player in the NBA and Earl is doing him no favors.

You're going to be shocked at how good BK can be once he gets a coach that can stick a fork up his bum.

You think we can trade him to the Spurs for Patty Mills?

They are all hot and cold, and Knight is mostly always cold. They say Booker has turf toe which is hurting his play...not sure if/how much that is playing a part in his shooting. Other nights when he wasn't shooting well he passed more which maybe should have been his approach tonight. Worst thing was the rookies played well but then didn't get much playing time after that (bigs).

It's killing his shot and his game. He can't cut and he can't elevate. The last two games he's just been terrible on defense, just like he had been those nights prior to him sitting out a game. I really don't know what the hell we're thinking? I hate to second guess coaching, I'm usually the last one to do it but Booker needs to rest until he heals. He can be great but he can't be great if he can't run and jump without pain. And this isn't the first time that Bledsoe has sleepwalked against an uninspiring opponent. I'd have benched him the moment I saw him missing shots by 2 feet. And Knight? I wouldn't even let him on the court during halftime.

Booker is taking this 'baby Kobe persona' sooo seriously.
He'll play through injuries all his career, I guess.

I really don't think our offensive system is that bad for Knight, it should suit him perfectly to be honest. Our offense is all about running dribble handoffs, weaves, pick and rolls, etc. to try getting mismatches for guards so they can get the switch off balance and go to the basket or get an open shot. For a guy that loves to attack, attack, attack off the dribble so much, he really just hasn't looked good doing it.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think our offensive system is bad. It's pretty much the same concept as what Portland does, but they have better guards to execute it than we do. We've just thrown in wrinkles like getting TJ isolated at the top of the key, 4-5 pick and rolls at the elbow, etc.

I'm also not ready to fault Watson not playing the rookies 20 minutes a game like a lot of people here expect. They've had their highs that we like to focus on a lot, but they've also definitely had their lows where they look like they shouldn't be on the court. I'd rather bring them along slowly and develop them through practice than immediately throw them into the fire, especially Bender who seems to need to develop some confidence.

Pick and rolls with BK are basically doomsday for your offense.

We run waayyyyy too few pin downs and flares for our shooters.

Team kinda quit at the end there, I wouldn't be surprised if that's a by-product of too much youth getting down on themselves. Dropped their heads when the Nets kept making all those shots.

This is where we see the real value of a vet like Chandler. If he was there I don't think the young guys would be rolling over so easily. He'd fire them up and ensure they stayed focused.

Mills would look awful on the Suns terrible ball movement.

I watch tons of Spurs games and everyone moves the ball with a purpose... It doesnt have to be an assist for them to move it.

Suns still over dribbles and move the ball in a very predictable manner when they do.

Mills is so effective catching and shooting the ball off well timed passes and screens. Suns do that maybe 10% most games. Too many drive then pass to players inside under pressure or outside kick out only for those players to dribble inside rather than shooting an open shot.

If we had a legitimate starting PF our offense would be a lot better but instead we have PJ and Dudley both who are not starters and Tucker is a borderline PF.

Maybe Chris and Bender could become that but they have a long ways to go before we can rely on them for consistent scoring.

our offense is way too perimeter oriented.

Yeah, I know it sounds like a cheap excuse but Watson did say it prior to the game. Here's the quote from an article linked at the start of this thread:

"Watson said Booker still has been bothered by the turf toe that sidelined him for a game on Oct. 31. He went three for nine from the field for 11 points, all in the second half, on Wednesday against Detroit.

“The toe injury lingers,” Watson said. “He never makes excuses.”

Sorry I just don't buy that haha. If you're not making an effort to get him in positions to score like pick and rolls, then you're just asking him to play iso ball, and that's even worse. He's got the skill set to attack off a pick and roll, he just hasn't been playing well. I'm not sure if it's coming off the bench killing his confidence or what, but he wasn't this bad last year.

Also, we don't really have shooters. Booker and Dudley are the only guys who are above-average shooters from outside, and Booker really hasn't shot well this year outside of like 2 or 3 games. Bledsoe, Knight, and Warren are all more about creating their own shot off the dribble or getting it at the rim, none of them are guys I'd want to run a play for a catch and shoot. Outside of those guys, no one is a legitimate offensive threat.

I agree, not having a legit PF is hurting us a lot on offense. Chriss and Bender should get there someday, and we look to be putting a lot more stock in Chriss at the moment, but he's clearly not ready to be a starter even though he's named our starter at the moment.

I don't know where else you want our offense to run through though. The league is perimeter oriented right now and our best players are all guards or perimeter players. Unless you want to see more touches for Len/Chandler in the paint, which I really don't.

Yeah
It always seems like we're 2 steps behind in the offense. In some games our guards will take over because they're good enough to do it, but if want this offense to be really consistent, u need to move the ball with purpose and pass/cut ALL THE TIME.

It also looks like we're fading away from the threes and working TOO much in long two's.
Doesnt look like a smart offense at all.

BK has 5 shots off screens. 5 shots!!!!!!!! five. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

TJ has 25 by comparison. Book has 22.

Earl has gone to the effort of staggering Bled so he plays with BK, i.e to get the ball out of BK's hands. Yet still we only manage 5 off-screens for him? :(

Compare that to BK's 69 shots off PnR... @ 0.78 PPP. It's just not working. It shouldn't be part of the play book.

We all know BK is a shooter. He hasn't shown any of it this year. But we should be designing plays for him as a shooter, not a point guard.

Nets aren't as terrible as they were last year, but it's still inexcusable to let them win in such an embarassing fashion.

Also 10 games in and Watson doesn't really look like a smart hire.

Return to Phoenix Suns
