TV Coverage - Studio Analysts plus

Post#1 » by NuggetsWY » Wed Nov 16, 2016 2:05 am

Way back when, only a few games each year had "studio analysts". They did the pre-game show, the half-time show, and the post-game show.

Watching tonight's Cavs vs. Raptors on NBATV, the studio analysts talk through the start of the game and the start of the second half and they even talked during some commercials and continued talking while the game started even then.

I may be old-fashioned but I just figure they can do their talking when the game isn't going.

Along similar lines, while I truly enjoyed listening to Carr and the Big-O talking during the second quarter, I would have enjoyed it more if they had done it before/after the game so that I could hear the game being called. It was much worse when they had Barkley at courtside. I just muted the TV for him, and he was on for the whole game when Kevin Mchale was supposed to be giving his opinion. I didn't need to listen to know Barkley would give ten times more sound bite than Mchale.

Once upon a time, being an announcer was a skill. These days, anything that is noise seems to work just fine. But it's probably just me. I am a basketball purist and I know it. I do not like many things about the modern NBA but I just can't get myself to stop watching it.
