Re: I Love Mozgov thread
He sucked balls during pre-season but kicked butt in the game opener and hope he continues that way.
I like him as a player and person in general just thinks he's getting paid way too much. But enough about that.
Mozgov is cool I'll stick with that.

Re: I Love Mozgov thread
The key to Mozgov's success is ball movement. If we move the ball and look for the extra pass, he's going to be a beast for us, if we iso and hold the ball, he'll be relegated to Defense... More specifically, ball movement between him and Randle and the other bigs...
The beauty of Moz is despite his size, he's a mobile big. We have to find a way to hit him on the move... Transition, Pick and roll, whatever... That's his wheel-house... And we'll benefit greatly from it.
He's not Shaq... We can't expect him to be an anchor like that or expect him to tear people up in the post.

Moz is definitely an upgrade over hibbert. He's a good center and big man. It's just the dollars were too high.

I personally don't have a problem with the amount of money he's getting paid, considering the Lakers weren't a big free agent destination this past off season. The new salary cap dictated the market and looking at the crazy salaries paid out this past summer, Moz is only slightly overpaid. I do, however, think he is signed one year too long. $48M/3 yrs would've been ideal, but that probably wouldn't have been enough to get him.

And much like Nick Young's contract that will hopefully seem like a bargain in a few years.'

Re: I Love Mozgov thread
The money is just too much...
As the NBA goes smaller, there is going to be less starting spots and mins across the league for "big" men.
Meaning, you should be able to sign one for cheaper than other positions
Not to mention this is a huge amount for a player that couldn't even get on the floor in the finals last year.
99.99 % chance the lakers severely regret the signing by the end of the contract. And likely sooner than that... If they don't already regret it... Since moZgov being on the roster makes it much harder to trade for a long term young center like WCS or Noel.

USA Celtics in full effect. Amazing chemistry building experience right there for the main core of the team
Proceeds to finish 7th and shames the entire nation!

Brooke Lopez was -13 TONIGHT vs Moz... so the Nets would probably have had a better chance without Lopez in the game. I mean they only lost by 7, so take out Brooke and they win by 6. Simple logic.

Moz so far had been a good signing, exceeding expectations of most of the posters here. You don't judge the player just by that +/- numbers. That is silly. Watch the game and see for yourself. You don't just judge a player based on stats. There are intangibles in a game.

Re: I Love Mozgov thread
I had a lot of doubts about Moz, and I had no problem voicing them... but he's ball'n. Half way through this Nets game I thought to myself "Man, I love Mozgov", and, Instantly, I thought of this thread.
He seems to be getting better by the game. His chemistry with both Russ, and Randle has been a nice surprise. 20pts, 6 rbs tonight. I don't expect him to get big numbers consistently but he IS absolutely a great fit next to these young guys. Sets hard picks, rolls hard, plays tough defense, doesn't need the ball to be effective, but also provides a big target down low for lobs and dump offs. He may, or may not, ever, be worth his huge contract, but no one can argue that he isn't working hard for his money. Great pick up so far.

Talking about how bad Julius Randle is:

Okay all the critics!! Here are the names thrown out instead of Mozgov plus the contracts:
Festus Ezeli (2/16) - Injured risk and has not played 1 game.
Bismack Biyombo (4/72) - 7.8 reb/6 ppg
Ian Mahinmi (4/64) - Played 1 game. Out with leg injury.
Moz (4/64) - 8.2ppg/5 rpg
Mahinmi and Ezeli were two of the favorites but both are not playing and Ezeli looks like a train wreck. Ezeli was an injury risk and only Portland took a shot with a 2 year deal. As for Mahinmi, hopefully Mahinmi will return but not sure how well he will do. The only comparison to Moz at this moment is Biyombo but the guy is barely 6'9". How will he guard all the 7 footers? BTW, we would have to pay 8 million more for the 6'9" center. I say the FO did a good job with signing Moz. You might complain about the 4 years but EVERYONE with a decent body was getting 4 year deals so you cannot fault the FO.

I personally think Moz's deal will look alot better and cheaper next season when the Nerlens Noels of the world will be earning north of 25M.

Re: I Love Mozgov thread
I like the chemistry Moz is showing with Russell/Randle and have been pleasantly surprised by his ability to stretch the floor lately. His jumper looks smooth, he's big, mobile, assisting at career highs, 80% free-throws, doesn't complain about touches or PT.
He's helping stabilize this young roster at what will be seen as a mid-range deal for a 7-footer at this stage in his career. I can't complain.
He fit the need of size and stability at the center position.
