Minnesota got one 4 years after the Target Center opened, Cleveland got one 3 years after their arena opened. I'm a bit surprised Chicago hasn't had one since '88.

Baseball always tries to reward cities that open new stadiums. The NBA is about marketing the "event". We are long overdue no doubt.

The NBA used to be like that and to a certain extent, still are. Orlando opened their arena in 2010 and had the all star game the following season.

Brooklyn opened their arena in 2012 and hosted all star Saturday while MSG had the actual game on Sunday.

In the old days, it was really common to see arenas get the ASG after they opened. Like you mention above, you had Minnesota 3 years after their arena opened but you also had Miami in year 2 of their arena, Charlotte in year 4 and Orlando in year 4 of their original arena. Phoenix got it in year 3 of the opening of what was then America West Arena.

Nowadays, the event has become such a big deal that you need hotel space and what not. That's most likely why you won't see it in Sacramento but you'll see it in San Francisco when the Warriors open their crib.

Badass. The brew tanks are kind of a waste of space and an overdone gimic but otherwise this looks great.

Can't wait until we start seeing this all come together.

The construction is coming a long pretty fast now. They have some the outlines of the buildings already up.

I just hope this all takes off. They're relying on people coming there during the offseason. I can easily see it becoming a ghost town years from now if it isn't done right.

Probably going to hurt Water St and Third St bars.
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.

Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

Seems pretty cool. I just hope they take into account how to make it work even in the winter. Sounds like they are thinking about it with an ice rink. I'm looking forward to it. I would definitely be into grabbing a beer or meal pre/post game.

Making it a year round destination is helped by having the offseason during the summer. During the winter there will be 60+ Bucks/Marquette games plus other events at the arena. Whether anyone goes down there in the winter when there are no arena events remains to be seen.

Seeing those brewing tanks there makes me think that Miller/Coors is going to have a big hand in this...hence maybe naming rights?? There is no way a craft brewery could afford naming rights and with MKE brewing moving in the old Pabst building it won't be them. I thought Lakefront was expanding in the Valley. Also I doubt they go with a craft brewery considering how much they are partnered with the Coors Light brand. Maybe the arena will be named the Leinenkugel Lodge...

I'm having trouble mentally picturing the layout of this. Where is the the arena in any of those shots?

In the top picture crkone posted the arena is on the right with that Bucks logo plastered on.

The second picture would be from the roof of the arena on the southeast side.

The last picture would be from the roof of the arena on the east side.

Hmmm...I don't think that's right. All three pictures that crkone posted are facing the entertainment complex from the same side. All three of them have the same building with the Bucks logo plastered on.

So either we're facing the arena in all three pictures, or we're taking the photo from the arena's POV in all three pictures.

Well I know the second and third are coming from the arena POV. Okay, I think the first one is from the plaza in front of the arena because you can see that covered walk path and then the Moderne beyond it.

So if you look at that third picture, the first picture was taken from just beyond that grassy area in the middle right by the fountain(?)

Yeah, I think that's right. So, the arena isn't in any of those shots because it's on the other side of the plaza (you can see a sliver of it in the left side of the second photo).

FWIW, I think they can do more with that plaza than just have a landscaped walkway. They could put some food trucks there. They could host rallies, concerts, and press conferences there. Maybe even do a little farmers market there during the warmer months.

If the Bucks ever make it deep in the playoffs you put a giant projector there and have a watch party.
