I believe both the Celtics and the Magic had promised Porzingis that they would draft him in 2014 if he stayed. The Celtics had the 6th and 17th overall picks (not clear which pick Ainge promised to Porzingis) and the Magic had the 12th overall pick. Magic GM Rob Hennigan was apparently so infatuated with Porzingis (well before the 2014 draft) that he actually had worked on a comprehensive and elaborate plan to develop him into a star that he sent to Porzingis and his reps hoping that that would convince Porzingis to stay in the 2014 draft so the Magic could draft him. Both Hennigan and Ainge have said they were willing to wait a year (or more) if Porzingis chose not to come over for the 2014-2015 season. Hennigan said after watching Porzingis workout ahead of the 2015 draft that there was no shot that Porzingis would still be on the board by the time the Magic (who had the 5th pick) were up.

And then prior to the draft, KP's folks denied the 6ers a workout. And the rest will be glorious history.

If I remember correctly, Presti promised Porzingis to be drafted in the first round by Oklahoma City Thunder in 2014 if he stayed, I did not hear that Boston promised the pick, but Orlando was into him and was hoping he will stay in the draft.
Celtics fan.
We also face the Kings twice in the near future. I think it's time Yabu pays back some of that free money he's been given his entire career and bounces Fox for a nice 2 week ankle sprain.

You have to take Boston rumors with a grain of salt. They stick their name on everybody after the fact.

This. If you thrust those rumors, they were just about to draft Giannis, Draymond Green, Embiid and every good prospects under the sun.

Either that or they had some trade on the table for this player or that player, and people take it as some form of genius even though nothing happened

I feel like Turner is being under utilized in Indiana. He is the second best offensive player we have, but often seems like an afterthought in the offense. He goes 10+ minutes on the court nearly every game where they don't even pass him the ball.

indiana should be really good, idk whats going on. They need to just plant ellis on the bench and run cj miles into the ground at the 2. it makes no sense why some nba coaches play bad offensive players when you have a better option sitting there on the bench. Also, i've noticed a lot of turners field goal attempts are kind of difficult, he likes the mid range and hooks, i would like him to get more lay ups off rolls or three pointers. tremendous defensive upside still

That has been true for KP almost his entire NBA career too, but it is finally starting to shift a bit. There have been plenty of games this season already where KP is wide open, but other guys are jacking up shots. We play way better as a team when he is more involved on both ends.

He is actually a GREAT shooter though. Even though he takes a lot of midrange shots, he hits them at a very good rate.

The run PnRs with Turner and don't even think of passing to him though, its really frustrating.

The rumors actually came out back in 2014 though. That's even before the 2014 draft (Porzingis initially declared but withdrew and instead went in the 2015 draft). Back in 2014, there was talk that an NBA team actually was instrumental in getting Porzingis to even declare (initially). Some believed that it was Ainge who was in Europe watching him (and other guys like Saric and Jokic) extensively at the time right before Porzingis declared in 2014. Same with Hennigan and his "master plan" for Porzingis. That was also reported back in 2014. Neither is after the fact, both a full year before Porzingis was eventually drafted by the Knicks and nearly a year and a half before he even played his first official NBA game.

I do remember the Orlando stuff going on, and no doubt about Boston if you're confirming, but in general Boston rumors are trash. I bet a number of teams made some kind of contact just doing due diligence on any number of players.

Technically, he wasn't a rookie last year. But yeah, it's a stupid rule. You should be considered a rookie if you played less than a 100 minutes the year before (or something like that).
