Name one shot Speights got off Portis that he wouldn't have gotten on Lopez? Come on now.
Well, wouldn't that be the point? Bobby wasn't doing that good of a job keeping Speights in check.....so if he was going to get wide open 3 pointers all night, then at least we could have had Lopez leave him open all the time, but in addition, we'd get some solid defense at the rim and rebounding which Bobby wasn't giving us at all. In addition.....maybe Lopez could have tried to take advantage on the other end as well. Also, let's not act like this team doesn't switch all the time anyway.....so I don't know if Lopez would have been that much more putrid on defense than Bobby.
If you're going to give yourself the best chance of defending Speights in pnr then you don't throw Lopez out there on him, Robin doesn't move well enough in space. Sometimes you just have to give the other team credit.

I wish for once we woulf make the other team matchup with us. Portis gave you 0. Couldn't rebound, defend, score, nothing. At least Lopez would've been a threat tl score and he would've pulled the rebounds rbay Portis missed.

Seems like I'm going at you a lot so sorry if it feels that way lol. Bobby wasn't defending either though. If we're going to let Speights score 16 we might as well do it with someone who can have a positive impact on the game.

Re: PG: Screwed the pooch
You're simply uniformed and wrong to believe Lopez should be on the floor to guard Paul/Speights P&R. It's literally such a wrong opinion of objective basketball strategy to the level saying "I think the offense should be built around long two point jump shots".
You lose a lot of basketball games when you're best player goes 5-18 from the floor (the FT help but not really) and your bench gets 15 points on 17 shots when you're playing on the road against a top five team.

One thing I will give Fred credit when he make that one play call when he uses Jimmy, and Wade as decode I think it's the triple play that we keep seeing but this time it was effective when Cannan made the three. That was a nice play there.

Just imagine Lopez in this situation. Sure, Bobby didn't stop him, but Lopez probably wouldn't have been able to contest.

Players need to step up and let Fred know his rotations were garbage. Lopez needs to say something to him. Wade needs too as well since he is the voice of this team. I hope he's in Jimmys ear too because as far as I'm concerned it's about to be an L tomorrow if Jimmy comes out like he did tonight.

bobby portis, a guy who stinks out loud right now, played for more than a quarter of consecutive game time as the bulls were in the process of blowing a winnable game. he is bad, and he played a long time against a good team, and the guy he defended lit us up to lead them to victory.
Yup. Apparently two ends of the spectrum. I see things closer to your perspective.

Yes, this is the one time in the fourth when he made a decision that wasn't dictated by what Rivers did, but then again, he was forced to make such a decision because of the time and situation of the game.
That's why it bugs me that he decided to stick with Portis so long. It didn't even need to be Lopez, when things were going tough on the offensive end, then go small, mix up the line up, but don't just react to the opposing team's decisions.
Why so serious?

Re: PG: Screwed the pooch
Oh, and another thing you could adjust is tell Taj to guard Mo and Portis to guard Blake switch it. I will tell Bobby like hey look man you suck you have struggle in all aspect of this game but I am going to give you a chance to redeem yourself I want you to guard blake yes you have a hand ful but what I want you to do is play physical with him, and if you need to give clean hard fouls on him make him earn it don't let him go to the paint with ease. I want you to rebound, set good screens, and play smart play with energy if you struggle all that say hello to the bench.
Yeah that will be my speech there

Re: PG: Screwed the pooch
Butler is not clutch
Butler has little offensive game other than driving into fouls, if he doesnt get the call its a 50/50 turnover
Butler is a ballstopper that calls for the ball then realizes he has nowhere to go so he does that spin around on his pivot foot thing searching for someone to desperately pass it to
Butler is a worse iso machine than rose was
Even in his good (boxscore) games I didnt like him. Real stars look smooth, they are naturals, every single one of his shots looks like hes forcing 150% of effort and the form is all off and it just looks bad. His game wont evolve well, because it isnt really game. Its extreme but trade him for some good young pieces or firsts and bring in cp3/griffin

Bobby did great by only letting Speights have the best game of his season in the span of a quarter. Bobby played great defense and even let Speights grab only 4 offensive rebounds. Lopez would've got those rebounds but it's their home court so we let them have them.

We switch on screens in the Pick n roll btw so it would've been a guard on Speights on the perimeter.

A couple of those shots Speights hit were actually contested by Portis too. Just gotta tip your cap.

The real reason why Bulls lost. Not because of Fred.
