heavily guaranteed contract, i think this guy is a steal. Underlooked because he didn't play in a major conference

If they signed him, doesn't it remove the option of sending him overseas?

I wonder if we will get an injured player exception because of Embiid and Landry which would temporarily allow us to have 16 players.

In short no.

You get the exemption only for the amount of time you have 4 (or more) players out. An Philly doesn;t project to have 4 players out, and if so, certainly not for long.

Yep. Although for a guy picked where he was picked that didn't ever seem realistic.

I think it's a pretty good contract for the team too. Hinkie is a control freak.
“This may be one of the best jobs in basketball right now,” Colangelo said at a press conference introducing him as the new GM of the 76ers after Sam Hinkie resigned.

Where is Holmes?

Post#68 » by roma258 » Fri Nov 18, 2016 4:23 pm

I don't get it. He's been great. Hit a game winner even, advanced stats off the charts. Gets no tick. Why does Brett Brown hate him?

Remove Okafor from the equation and Holmes will start getting more minutes. He deserves them.

it's obvious they're in tanking mode...they might say the contrary but i don't buy it...hinkie was a sacrficial lamb and the colangelos are using the same blueprint which is the highest form of hypocrisy

If Jah and biid r splitting mins@ center it's kind of hard to play him. Though I absolutely think he should be able to cut into some of Dario or I'llsova minutes at the 4 especially if they are not knocking down shots

I've never seen a scenario like this in the NBA where a young guy plays so well but the head coach elects not to allow him to compete for more minutes. Brett Brown has created an environment that doesn't allow competition at every position. That's moronic. For two seasons straight the power forward position on the Sixers has been strictly controlled by Brett Brown to never allow Okafor any minutes there and whenever Okafor is on the court with Noel and Holmes he is required to be the rim protector when those other two players have more of a natural inclination for it. Brett Brown relegates Okafor to the center position at all times and Holmes to the bench if he can't find minutes for him at center. Brett Brown is stunting the development of the Sixers young players in favor of playing an old veteran that doesn't contribute to winning organizations like Ersan. Ersan is a broken veteran NBA player, a career loser.

Its only going to get harder to get him minutes, when Simmons (and perhaps Noel) gets back. We have a ton of bigs....someone is going to be the odd man out. HOWEVER, I'd like to see Brett play Jah and Embiid more...which would in turn open up a few minutes for Holmes. Also Brett needs to go away from Saric or Ersan when its obvious they are off. We aren't good enough to have such a tight rotation. Go with the hot hands more...but more importantly...stay away from the cold ones

Holmes is a player, he has improved in every category.
He is a much improved rebounder now which was his biggest weakness. He should be a 6th man on most teams.

I think you are overrating him. He is an athlete, that can block shots, and he plays with great bounce, and great energy.

His rebounding has been better, but he is still solidly behind Embiid, Okafor, and Noel overall in terms of skill and potential.

Happy to have him though, and it makes it easier to trade one of the other guys, which is what I think will be what happens sometime in the next couple of months.

He's perfect playing stretch 4 with Simmons at PG alongside 2 wings who can 3&D. That way his rebounding won't be an issue.

There's a lot of evidence that his shooting isn't sustainable but his finishing at the rim is. Playing stretch 4 takes him away from the rim. I don't know if he'll be able to defend 4s either but that seems more uncertain.

Well, my thinking is to always have 4 floor spacers for either one of Simmons, Biid or a another scorer (maybe Okafor) to operate that seems like the norm nowadays. And I do agree that his 3pt% will drop considering his less than .8 attempt per game sample size is likely not sustainable.
