Phil Jackson offends LeBron James and the two NBA power-brokers who've co-captained Team LeBron for years. Kristaps Porzingis riddles Detroit for 35 points to ever-so-briefly give the Zen Master some relief from the mounting criticism of his reign to date. Then the Knicks, after a team meeting in Phil's presence, beat the Hawks to improve to 6-1 when Derrick Rose scores 15 points or fewer ... compared to 0-6 when D-Rose exceeds 15 points. A wild, wild week, even by MSG standards.
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/18104098/nba-power-rankings-marc-stein-week-5-rankingsfound this interesting. don't care about power rankings but the bit about rose. i wonder if his higher attempts drag us down because of his inefficiency.
It has to do with him being more of a PG. When he is driving and collapsing the defense and finding the open man we are a dynamic team because we have a lot of guys who thrive in catch and shoot situations. High assist games for rose usually means either Melo or KP are benefiting from it.
Also we usually play well when we face a point guard that doesn't have a combination skill set like shooting and quickness.
For example...we were able to consistently go under the screen on Schroder because you want him too shoot. Same thing with Ish Smith and same thing with Rajon Rondo. Rose is a bigger stronger guard so if he can get under the screen in good position to close off the drive we usually are in good shape.
It's guards like Isiah Thomas, Kyrie Irving, and even George HIll who have outside shots that give us trouble because it forces rose to go over the screen and puts our defense in trouble because a lot of our team are ball watchers and the come in to help on penetration but are simply too far off the recover and close out on the 3 point shooter.
For example Lillard will probably be a really tough matchup for Rose in our next game. I would seriously consider trapping him on every ball screen. Keep mccollum covered and force guys like Harkless, Plumlee, and Ed Davis to beat us. We simply need to get the ball out of lillards hands or he will light us up from deep.
