Somewhere in the T&T forum someone was discussing a trade of Austin + Wes Johnson for Wesley Matthews. It sounds tempting, as Matthews could be some sort of resemblance of a two way SF for us, but I'm not sure if I'd thin our depth even more, and trade away the only thing similar to a young player that we have, for an immediate injury risk on a long expensive contract. What do you guys think?

I would trade Austin for a good ice cream vendor however I would not want to give up on wes especially for someone like matthews

that's pretty tough. from all accounts i've heard matthews isn't doing too great post-achilles. and his contract kind of sucks. at the end of the day i think i say no unless matthews improves over the course of the season.

curious about chris bosh. how will that all work, if he got the OK from his doctors. could we possibly sign him? i assume he wouldn't be playoff eligible?

well, wes matthews sure looked pretty ok tonight. can't say i'd hate a trade for him but losing wes johnson when i don't think bass is doing much for the team seems pretty dangerous. and then if you get even one injury now you're relying on alan anderson who seems to be hurt and paul pierce :(

Yeah the Bass thing is weird, he looked so good last year as a proper defensive anchor, and he's barely doing anything useful at all this year, it's puzzling. I guess part of that is not having a defined role and consistency, so hopefully if he were called to step up as a fixated part of the rotation he'd improve, but I just don't know if he might be done.

Matthews looked good yesterday, but the problem with him is consistency nowadays, so I'm still not sure if I'd do that trade. Worth it to think about it, for sure. Look at Luc, he was done before he came here, he was pretty horrible in Philadelphia and Minnesota, and everyone thought his knee injures would never let him play at this level again. These things are really hard to project.

I don't think the Mavs are the Doc type of "if he played well against us..." but just in case, Austin killed it against them

well, i think one thing that might provide reason is that athletic PF's often start tanking hard once they reach their 30's. the cliff is super real so the ones who rely heavily on athleticism to get things done are often left without a lot of options. fortunately for bass he can still shoot and he can obviously get up in the air to dunk. but it's either his lateral quickness is gone or he never had any and his defensive awareness has waned/hasn't developed with the team.

i really don't know, and i'd feel way better about moving rivers/wes if brice, pierce, or even stone were reliable and ready to play some defense. but that's definitely not the case.

Last I heard Miami won't release him until March 1st so he can't sign with another team and be eligible for the playoffs.

yeah i think i remember reading that as well. kind of scummy by them but i guess they don't want him coming back to screw them if they meet up in the playoffs.

still he's a guy you can have come in and help you make the playoffs or push for higher seeding, or keeping your stars fresher. but that comes at the cost of sitting out your players who will actually play in the playoffs and the chemistry/sync that comes from playing.

probably the former outweighs the latter by a very good margin if you're able to keep blake fresher and wes johnson doesn't care about less RS court time. what do you guys think?

I would be shocked if doc ever trades Austin. he is saving whatever his nba career might be. I have watched bass from his days as a magic and have always liked his offense. the problem is his defense is inconsistent. he misses rotations and does not rebound well. I still like wes and think he is worth saving at this time. however I would be all in on cris bosh. he could be a game changer in the playoffs.

miami is not going to let him play in the playoffs, that's what the last few posts about him have been discussing.

If we want to see the trade options available, we need to compile a list of all the players other teams signed in the last two seasons and are not happy with so far. Then from those players we can see which teams might want some of our players.

Well Casspi is on the market, so he's an option, but obviously Sacramento is not taking on two more guards with at least two years left on their contract and third year option (one player, one team) when they already have Collison and Lawson and trading two expiring contracts to do so while leaving themselves bare at SF.

I'd assume these are the kinds of players we could try for depending on what the team needs:
    Solomon Hill
    Wesley Matthews
    Jeff Green
    DeMarre Carroll maybe
    Miles Plumlee
    Evan Turner
    Luol Deng

Of course when you look a the contracts, you might not actually want them, but those are the type of guys you'll be getting for Rivers and Crawford

I don't know if you're referring to the trade proposal Dynamix made or to my list of players, but the list of players is not a joke. If you are trying to trade Jamal Crawford and Austin Rivers, those are the caliber of players and types of contracts that you will first have to start searching through, which is exactly why they aren't such easy players to trade. Half those contracts Clippers wouldn't want, the other half if the Clippers want, the other team wouldn't want the Clippers guys.

On the other hand, you can look at a team like Philly and try to get a guy like Gerald Henderson maybe, but he's doing pretty well there, 10 ppg in 24 mins shooting 49/41/78 and is on a 2 year / $18 million contract, so have no clue why they would want to make a bad deal.

Hahaha, Jeff Green. Actually contract wise, Jeff Green was the best deal out of him, Crawford and Rivers. 1 year only, so nice.
