How did you guys miss that one?

As interesting as it is to throw out names like Noel and Bogut, you know the debate going on in the front office is Demarcus. Like him, hate him, what he brings to the floor is and to the asset management end is too perfect. I'd rather not debate his attitude and petulence, it's obvious and really not worth debating any further. For sheer pragmatic reasoning Cousins is the prize. If Danny can extract him for less than a king's ransom that's the play. Definite risks, but he would provide this team with a number one option scorer, a beast in the paint for rebounds, and (if he buys in) a defensive rim protector. That's really the trade Danny needs, everything else is a band-aid.

The point with Kelly is that you can sign a free agent then go over to re-sign him because of his low cap hold. There is real value there.
Of course he's worth easily 15M if he puts up anywhere near his numbers from last year. As an example, one of his closer comps on offense last year is Chandler Parsons. Except Kelly plays much better defense and gives you that floor stretching from the 4/5 instead of SF.
Kelly is woefully underrated on this board because of what he doesn't do well (rebound, attack the basket) and people miss that he's really good at a few key things (3pt shooting, switching D, not turning it over).
His cap hold is like $7.7m and could go up under the new CBA, but agreed on the rest.

What's the trade offer, though?
Not that Nets pick, lol.

I'm not sure Danny can pull it off without at least one of them and '18 will be too hard to quantify.
The package would be in my mind:
Olynyk
Rozier
Brown
Nets '17
any other flotsam or jetsam Vlade might want?
If Danny can convince Brad and Vlade pulls the trigger...
Now if Danny can do it for less it's a bargain. For more and the Kings have to put assets in.

I wouldn't give up Jaylen, and definitely not the Nets 17, never mind both.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to either. Let's pretend that was Vlade's initial offer, what does Danny counter with that Vivek will sign off on?

Nothing I am down for, lol.
As with Bogut, I think we can win a bidding war for Cousins, but that we shouldn't.
His value can also only go down, while Jaylen, the Nets 17 pick and possibly Rozier will go up.

I really like Jaylen.... But if you can get Cousins without giving up Bradley or Crowder isnt really a no brainer?

Well Vucevic is coming off the bench now in Orlando. I might be the only one herebwho would prefer him over Cousins. Would be cheaper to get and less of a headache.

That'd be great if we only lose one of jaylen / nets17 and get to keep bradley and crowder. I'm doubtful on keeping bradley though if his stock is currently the highest and would command 20m+ together with IT in 2018. That's the problem if IT+Bradley will command 50m of our cap that i can't figure out.

why would Utah do it? they are in the mix for 7/8th spot. Likely making the playoffs

There's zero chance that they can beat LAC, SA, or GS, with or without Hayward. Not exactly a goal to strive for and afford to lose Hayward for nothing. Ainge threw out enough media nuggets about our interest in Hayward and reuniting with his former coach, that it should scare away other teams into giving up much assets to Utah for him.

Steve Bulpett:

From all indications speaking to team sources around the league, Danny Ainge is still after the major trades the C’s president of basketball operations knows are needed. And no doubt he’s loving each story calling the 2017 draft one of the deepest and most talent-laden in many years, understanding that such talk could raise the value of the Nets’ pick that can be theirs.
But while you know changes have to be coming, it might be helpful to begin preparing yourself to part with one or more players to whom you’re growing attached these days.

Re: The (Where Ainges Fear to) Trade Thread, 2016-17 (1.0)
I see your point, but if I'm Utah I would not make that trade.
Amir Johnson is undersized big man who is just learning to hit the 3. It's terrific to have him in green uniform, he's very reliable and smart but while he may be only 29, it's his 12th season (past-prime if he ever hit his prime anyway) and you kinda get the feeling what he is about. More of an asset as an affordable-contract-complementary role on a contender, rather than on a young promising team (Utah).
Tyreke Evans is the only piece they can utilize from giving up Hayward, and there is clearly something wrong with his confidence since that record setting rookie season.

It would be better for Utah and probably NO if Olynyk went to Utah and Amir's expiring to the Pelicans, but the money doesn't exactly fit. Keep in mind Utah would also shed Diaw, who is underperforming and overpaid.

It's almost December. We need more trade rumors. And not from gospelherald, sportsrageous, HNGN, morningnews, etc.

I don't think there's a chance in hell that Utah blows it up, they need to get healthy more than anything. At full strength I think they're 4th best in the west with an extremely young core and solid prospects at all positions. Snakebit is an understatement for that squad and it's really a shame with all that talent
